Last night when I was putting the pullets to bed for the night, very odd behavior.
They crowded themselves into a corner of the coop, practically on top of one another. Didn't want to roost.

I've also been noticing strange animal behavior lately... The last couple of days there have been more deer than usual along the side of the road, yesterday there was a dead crow in the middle of the highway and this morning one flew up in front of me and I came very close to hitting it. My husband saw a Canadian Goose fly into the side of a van this morning on his way to work. Last night my chickens didn't want to go into their coop, even the babies! That was very odd, they're usually on the roost before I go out at 9 to close everything up. I thought maybe there had been some sort of drama because the food dish was knocked over too, but it was just weird the way they were acting. The babies were out running around with the flock, they usually stick pretty close to the coop so I figured something must have scared them.
Maybe we're going to have an earthquake or something?

Thanks! I just copied and pasted that post to print off.

We are trying to read Wheat Belly right now. I think this is my biggest struggle - bread and giving it up. More successful getting the dogs and cats to a healthier diet than we are at getting ourselves on one!!

FYI: it's not bred per se, it's how commercial bread is processed. First there is Roundup in the wheat, second they add 3x the gluten & rise the bread for 15-30 mins., this doesn't give the yeast the time it needs to break down the gluten sufficiently to not cause problems in the digestive tract. Each person has a different tipping point. Long & short of it, if you think bread is making you gain weight, try making your own. The best weight loss comes from eating whole, real foods, healthy gut biome (think fermented foods), meditation/yoga/prayer, fun exercise. Each stage of life and any medical conditions have their own needs to deal with. There is a really good online course through Coursera on Pain & Lifestyle taught by Dr Frickton at the U of M.

I keep chicken as part of my meditation, it just backfired for me. I worry about them regularly.

I would welcome a rat snake or two and some garter snakes. If you have critters like that, it means your ecosystem is somewhat intact. Out here in the fields, we don't see any of them.

Ralphie, I think you need another chicken poop eating dog, a Livestock Guardian kind. It would keep all the critters out. I would get one but I have 3 big dogs already and don't think our pocketbook could feed another big dog!

How many do you want Minnie? My SIL pays his little brother to relocate garter snakes, frogs, & salamanders out of the window wells. He doesn't think that I will do it. He might be right, he's in the middle of my tolerance scale.

What moon phase are we in Foxy?

Got a call. Ethel went back to roost this morning. Not a good sign. I'll go over there and see if I can help. I don't have an Ethel and that sweet Olive Egger Face makes me want an Ethel of my own. Ethel....

Sitz baths. Ahhh yes, Ralphie.... Chicken problems.

Here's some pics from this morning.

Dear Son is fly fishing with "Grampa" in Whitewater State Park. Grandpa's old stomping grounds. Looks like they're having some success. Little scared to let him go as Grandpa is not a tea-todler. So had to tell Grandpa that he needed to mind his p's & q's with the grandkids. There would be no learning how to drive a stick shift at 13 years old because you "had to" . LOL. How did I ever survive? Anyways Gramps has settled down in his own age and the grand sons are having a good time with him.

Peonies are blooming. This color has not been modified.

So if mowing the lawn and partial weed whipping wasn't enough I made some cold process soap with coffee grounds last night. Smells delicious.

My Kitchen Garden. With Free Range Nesting Box.

Tootsie and the Girls. He was pecking the ground...with his grumpy face. Glad to get this picture with his head up. Jerk. Easter Egger with questionable morals right there in the buff. Perhaps I interrupted.

Happy Friday chickeneers!
