Minnesota!

And now for the real reason I came online....

Ethel came back with 5 babies this afternoon. I searched for her nest with no luck.

Here are a few more pictures. LOOK at the variation in colors, I have one that looks like a guinea but way bigger!

Penguin has a twin, almost. there is a little red on the twin.

Ethel is not happy with me right now. I picked her up and carried her and her babies into the Guinea gulag, I thought she was going to bite me!

You guys are cracking me up today. I must look so stupid laughing out loud reading from the computer!

@gofeedthegirls I loved your picture of your field!

@duluthralphie Your chick pictures are, as always, adorable!!

@Mistahbue If you look at ralphies link it describes that plants very well. I have real rhubarb and then I have 'wild rhubarb'. If you can compare them you can see the differences. We called them cockle burs growing up. They are a pain to get rid of! I have a 'garden' of such plants I am tackling weekly.

@Bogtown Chick Sadie Mae sounds like the cutest thing despite all her 'puppy'ness. She sounds like a good one!!

Johnny poppers are safety minded with their loudness and besides my count has me at 3 for green and 1 for red on here. Lol

Rhett's glad we could provide u some lighthearted banter in the form of tractor pride.

Those pictures of Ethel and her brood just make you proud for her. Nothing more beautiful than that momma right there.

Found a sparrow nest in our junipers. Not sure this momma picked the best hiding spot.

Well do our best to watch out for them.

She's doing good so far. The chickens are no big deal so far.

My uneducated guess is, if they are not a problem for her now, they never will be. Nice job making her behave around them.

She chased that silkie the second or third day. I gave a stern "SADIE"! And she ran for cover under the deck. So now she's mildly curious but intimidated by the larger birds yet I think... Plus when she looks we use "leave it" or "mine" or both low and slow on the words with no energy. We'll keep working as I'm still envisioning the 60-70 lb lab of muscle and pent up energy and the brain and common sense of a puppy yet. Scares the bejesus out of me that this is just a honeymoon phase for us yet.

If you have what I think you have DO NOT EAT IT.

Make sure it is really rhubarb. I have never heard of wild rhubarb.

That's EXACTLY what it is - thanks!!!

Nice! We have this growing everywhere and I was wondering what it was. I would never eat something that I was unsure about.

My Dad loved Ford tractors. Wish we had bought one of his now. At the time we had no use for it.

Ford actually made a decent tractor in later years, even if he did steal the patents from Ferguson. They always ran quiet never scared the horses and cows like the green things did.

I have thought about getting a 8n,9n or 2n as a project tractor, but my DW says I have enough other things I can fix first, she can be such a downer!

That auction I went to in Makinin the other day had am old Farmall M on it. It was in decent shape but the paint was faded and it blew a little smoke needed work and tires before you would call it an excellent (show condition) tractor. and it went for $2,500, which was about $1,000 more than I thought it was worth. (nothing to do with chickens, I know)

On the chicken side, I have another Keet. Again the eggs I was going to throw out today surprised me and gave me a baby.

DO Broody birds always know when all the eggs have hatched? I tried to find Ethels nest after she brought the babies to the yard, but failed to do so. I know she always has a dozen eggs when she sets on the nest. The babies looked a day or less old I was wondering if she just gets to 5 and stops setting. she brought me 5 last year and when I found the nest I found many pipped eggs. The eggs hatched in a rain storm (downpour) and I assumed the chicks drowned, but now I am wondering if she left the nest too soon.

Thanks for the link Ralphie, I had this exact same discussion with a lady at work yesterday when we were out on our walk. I told her it was not edible, but the link is good for reference for her.
Interesting that even the goats won't touch it! They will nibble all around it and keep the area trimmed but will not eat this. I haven't seen it in the pasture - figure the horses wouldn't eat it either.
