Minnesota!

Lalaland and Ralphie, sorry for your losses

Well, while you all were busy posting 119 posts in the last two days, i've been still slaving away on the footings for my expanded run. Should go from 10.5x6.5 to 21x10.5 Taking me quite a while, the ground is uneven, so on about half I have two cinder blocks stacked, then a 4x8x16 on top of that. I hope to be done by the beginning of winter. Kinda regret telling DH I would do all the block work

to get him on board and allow me to spend money on a bigger run.

but here is a progress photo or two:

Don't mind the fence, had to move it out of the way...

Stupid clay and boulders

it will more than double the size of the run, yey!
In the winter i'll be putting greenhouse panels around the whole run so they can use the whole run, like the photos of my current winter run set up in my "My coop" photos.
Wow. That is some really nice work.

That's odd KlopKlop. It's usually the go to medicine for open wounds on the farm. Can't believe those two places didn't have it! Crazy!

Haha Minnie! Well I HAD to wash off the tender quick because it contains PEG. Polyethylene glycol. The last time I left some tender quick on the bird we were running to the toilet every 30 seconds. PEG is active ingredient in miralax, by the way. But tender quick makes a tasty smoked bird. Everybody gobbled it up and have told me that's the way they want chicken from now on. Now if I did a straight salt sugar brine I doubt I'd rinse.
I did know that about PEG, my son had to use it daily when he was little, so I started laughing before I even got through your paragraph! LOL What a surprise you could use for an unwanted dinner guest!

Quiet today. Everyone must be keeping busy. Turns out my chook tunnel had some integrity issues and a few chooks ran free today. After chasing them for a few minutes I got smart and just opened the door to the run. They promptly let themselves back in to go to roost. I just get a hoot out of chicken antics

We're down to 44 Meaties now (from the 52 they sent us). I've never had so many losses in the first few days. I will definitely be calling Hoover's on Monday!

. . . and I totally give up trying to keep up on this thread! I've had too much going on in the past few weeks and I think I'm behind about 150 pages

Are they heat smothering? I've seen them pile up the same way as when they are cold but when they are too hot too

I would like to know who gave directions to my house to every skunk in Minnesota.

Tonight I heard some scratching on the back door, thinking it was my nomad tom cat, I opened the door.
Dang skunk fell into the door way. I thought it was going to come all the way into the house.
After regaining my composure I grabbed the shotgun. It hadn't moved ten feet. I couldn't shoot it with a 12 gauge that close to the house.
It would not run away no matter what i did. I had to go back in the house and get the 22 revolver.
There had to be something wrong with this one, I was less than 3 feet away from it when i shot it.

That makes 8 skunks since the mention of the critters on here 5 or 6 days ago.

No more PLEASE !!!!!
