Minnesota!

Loved the fair photos @holm25 such a good experience for you too. Beautiful black cow.

I think typically a rooster will lead and therefore establish himself in that manner. Although my broody raised rooster Elvis took a beating from a lead hen in his flock he ended up taking over. But that lasted all but a couple minutes and he had them following him after a day or two charming them with bugs, frogs or any morsel he found for gifts.
The other rooster from my broody took over right away. No issues from the hens. I think it varies. Soon the dancing and dining will win the girls over.

well the coop is almost finished i just have to figure out where I'm going to put food and water.. I went and got 2 things of straw today.. thank goodness i only opened 1..LOL... there is allot of straw... should i take some out or is that fine? i will know not to unwrap so much next time...and i did make the screen to the roost a flip up for easy cleaning...and i did put D~earth under straw...

Hmmmmmm at the risk of seeming rude, I think you made an error.

The grass/ground/run should be dirt or grass for them to dig and scratch in I think. I do not have one of those nifty coops with a run like that so I am not 100% sure but I thought the idea was to give them dirt.

However I do like the coop! My birds would feel pampered in something that nice.

I had a mishap at lock up time tonight, one of my Dang Turkeys taught a creamette how to fly onto the roof and avoid the coop! Finally got him down after a lot of stick throwing.

Just got home from the field and I almost sprinted to the coop to see if the girls would let little red(new rooster) into their domain and sure enough he was nestled up in the roost with them and they dont seem to mind. Thank goodness. I will check early in the morning to make sure there isnt any squabbles when the sun comes up tho. But ultimately im pleased with how the introduction is coming along!

LOL ...yea i wasnt sure on the straw in the run either..never had a coop or chickens before...but they will be free ranging in the yard anyways and there is lots of dirt,,,hard to grow grass in all this sand...
