My hubby, after 1 year in MN. He shed most of his Californian pretty quick.

Not everyone has the benefit of being born here in the promise land. I personally was born in Chicago and had to make the pilgrimage to the place I was meant to be here in the frozen north.

Do you ever find yourself backsliding?
Do you not eat a "Chicago" style pizza for the same reason an AA member never takes a drink, because that one taste could cause you to relapse?


Having been born here, I am curious about these things.



ON a completely unrelated real poultry thing,,,

Big Bird, my guest of honor for Thanksgiving, has been separating himself from the other birds and my DW says she thinks he is depressed. He stands by himself in the corner of the coop or way away from the rest, his head is not high and proud like it should be.

I have been worrying about disease or the dreaded AI. I found the problem this morning, Big Bird ( DW named him not me) is huge as a BBW compared to my slates. The dang stupid little slate toms are being mean! The are jump up in his face and pushing him around, A gang of 4-5 of them harassing big bird.

I now can work on solving the problem. One of the Gangsters could very easily find himself the guest of honor in Big Birds place! Dang birds!

We're canning tomatoes as well! Does your mom have tips to share?

Hmmm, tips. .. keep the tomatoes as whole as possible, small tomatoes go in whole, cut the others in half, or smaller if needed, she'd rather squish them into the jar them cut them small (not sure why)
1/2 tsp salt per jar, not a full tsp if doing quarts.
Don't add anything else. Jars in pot, bring to boil, can 45 minutes.
Anything specific you want to know?
Oh when you put the tomatoes in the hot water, once they start cracking, take them out and place in the cold water, as you are taking them out more will crack. They won't all crack though, that is ok, take them out anyways, don't want them to cook.
Use ripe tomatoes as much as possible.
Can't think of anything else right now.

Home, sweet home! The chickens are so glad we are home. We let them out and they started running around and clucking and crowing. They were the best welcoming comittee

Just bought some cattle panels from an old friend. He gave us a little bail of hay, 10 square bales, and a very nice box to transport goats. For free. Because he's a nice Finnish farmer from MN. How do I show my deep appreciation for his kindness? Drop off fresh homemade bread and farm eggs a few times?

I was just knee high to a grasshopper when we moved so I wasn't around long enough to grow attached I guess. I do enjoy a good deep dish though

I have never seen it in person, but I have seen a lot of videos of baby goats. The way they jump around and play is just so fun to watch. I would love some. They seem to have some very strong and fun personalities.

My family and I just got a couple goats! THEY ARE AWESOME!! Mine is totally bonded to me he will follow me everywhere!
