How do you know that a redneck is expecting important company?
He busted out the chainsaw to mow a path to the door?

While taking pictures I found a clue to my predator. I am thinking eagle or one BIG owl.
Look at what was under the T bar the guineas roost on.
A headless young Guinea, there was a little blood on the T bar.
Look closely in the picture you can see feather stuck in the bird netting above the roost. It is approximately 3 feet from the netting to the roost. I would think it would take a very large bird or a very fast bird to push the netting that far down. I am going to try and take some slack out of the net today, but there is not that much slack in it. It took the two of us and a lot of lifting to get the net as tight as it is....
So disappointing.
I might give the Jake a leg band and let him loose to mingle with the other turkeys. That way if the BBW looks picked on again, I can jail the offender again.
Wonderful!
I don't think you are being overly dramatic, I think it is serious business. I'm a big baby. I think I will have to be starving before I can do it. I saw it alot when I was young, but... like you said, serious business. I don't think anybody looks forward to it.The goats are doing well. Shy. Of I sit and don't look at them, George will sniff me. Irene will have nothing to do with me. She wiggles her way into the coop to get at the chicken feed. We have made the pop door smaller 3 times now. I think we did it. The barred rocks can barely get in. We fortified all fence with cattle panels, we call it Fort Knox. No one has been lost to the wolf in days....so I'm hopeful. This weekend is the end of the road for the 3 roosters, since one went after my Chihuahua. I helped butcher for the first time earlier this summer and it was a very solemn experience. Kinda made me feel like I grew up in a rather serious way. So I'm not afraid to butcher this weekend but I'm not looking forward to it either. It's just serious. I tend to want to keep the goats comfortable and healthy because I know their likely eventuality, and besides being cute litle guys their purpose is serious business so I better do my best. Does that make sense or am I being overly dramatic?
Looks good. I figure if they ever said anything to me about mine, I'd just say the building is the hen house, and that is 4x6. The run is just covered fencing, so that does not count as a building, just fence.
I found a guy in southern MN that is selling oats for $2.50 a bushel (about 35-40 lbs) I am going to try and get a few for myself. anybody interested in getting some? I can coordinate if you are.
There is a guy in Foley ( on Craigslist) selling them for $2.25 a bushel. I have no idea what his test weight is, but I plan to get some. I doubt they will be 32# a bushel. As long as they are not so heavy that they rot on me, I will be happy. I think he said he had 2,000 pounds. I read it yesterday. I did see oats went up 3 cents a bushel since he posted the ad.
