Minnesota!

Anyone else get hit with storms this morning? We got over an inch dumped on us in about an hour. I don't have to go to the basement to know that a bunch of that ran in through the walls. Daughter closed the brooder house for me last night, but not tightly, so the wind blew it open and I will have some cleaning to do since the rain went straight in the door. I only have a few of the youngest birds hatched this year in there, and mostly cockerels and bantams, but it isn't going to be a fun job. The meatballs must be cleaned today too. I don't let them run free like Ralphie, mine stay in a pen. I hope in the future to get them back out in tractors, but those are all full right now with teenagers waiting to be sorted through once the boys are big enough that someone will want to eat them, which for the folks who come to do that don't have to be all that big.

Took the kids to school this morning. The storm woke everyone, then after falling back asleep after the worst of it, we all ended up oversleeping a little. It is nice to have a quiet house this morning. Well, quiet except the washer and dryer and dishwasher that are going. The washer will be going for a couple of days since I am going to start cleaning my son's room with him out of the house all day now. I couldn't do it with him around, he would get mad for me going into his room. LOL! TOO BAD!!! We have tried to get him to do it for long enough, it is gross, so I am going to do it. That way too, I have some control of what condition his clothes are in when he leaves the house. He would be happy to just pick something up off the floor and put it on looking like the dog slept on it. The boy REALLY needs to find a girl he wants to impress. At least he lets me cut his hair and he even shaved his whole face clean before school instead of trying to grow that nasty billy goat scruff the young males are trying to sport. My oldest has a sort of fumanchu and I hate it, but since he lives on his own, I can't do much about it, his girlfriend likes it. SMH

One last thing, then off to get some work done...
Our dog brought a bird to the house yesterday. I don't think she killed it, just that she found it. It was a Northern Mockingbird. I had been wondering what it was I have been hearing this week that was not one of our normal songbirds. Now I know. And must be its mate was wondering what happened to it too because there was one looking like it was panicking up in the tree by the house last night. Makes me sad. My love of birds extends far beyond chickens and turkeys.

You must have posted this while I was spending 15 minutes typing mine.

We did not have any rain here last night,

I have never heard of yet alone seen a northern Mockingbird. We have them around our home in Florida, , I doubt they are "northern" though, I will look them up as soon as I finish this.

I also like all birds, Hence the huge bird feeding array I love and my DW hates. BTW tell your son not to clean up, his room, I found a wife and remained a slob..

Well, I think she found it already dead, it wasn't chewed on or even really wet. I looked it over carefully, tossed it in the dumpster and searched for it when I came in last night. It is definitely a Mockingbird. It may have gotten confused with the weather we have been having that it was already in the South. lol I know too that they are plentiful down in Florida. I am not sure what to think though.

I see the mockingbirds in Florida are Northern mockingbirds too. I have never heard of one so far north, Maybe he got up here and died of a heart attack over the impending winter.

Maybe the problem to start with is that you were eating pea soup... Blech!

Maybe you can find a two-fer deal on laptops and you both will be happy

I LOVE pea soup! Made with my own pork stock, chunks of ham, a little cheese shredded over top with a big hunk of fresh bread! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! One of the best things about fall and winter is eating soup, and split pea is always one on the list! There Ham and Potato, and Baked Potato with cheese, Wild Rice made with our without chicken, homemade tomato soup, chicken noodle soup, chicken vegetable soup, turkey noodle, turkey vegetable, beef and barley, beef vegetable....
Is anyone else thinking of Bubba?

I love pea soup too. The thing most people do wrong with pea soup is over cook it.

Smoked pork hunks in soup where the peas are not all mushed is great. And when you reheat it you get the mushy pea and more flavor!!

MMMMMmmmmmm

I also learned my lesson with backing up phones, I have a program with all my passwords and such in it, I don't have it go to the cloud though, just to my memory card, well upgraded phone, then couldn't get the program to work. Took a few days, but with much internet searching, contacting the app person, fiddling around, etc. I got it to work again. yep, I wrote it all down, then printed it off and also saved it on my hard drive on my computer. terrible feeling!

I love pea soup. I don't know how to make it, so rely on my mother or sister to throw me a bowl when they make it. My husband does not care for pea soup, so all is good.

well, me and said DH are going to the shooting range right now, looks like he is ready to go, so going to go shoot me some big guns, be back later!

It is not hard to make and it freezes well ;) The key is starting with a good homemade stock made with a smoked pork hock.

I have found pea soup to be a challenge! I can't make it. I don't even try anymore. Lol

Enjoy your time at the range! I just picked up a Springfield 1911 .45 - I'm in love! I "conceal" a 9mm. Do you know that Jesse James (motorcycle guru) makes firearms? I would love one of his AR-15 or AR-10. My husband says NO....sad. https://www.jjfu.com/
