Anyone else get hit with storms this morning? We got over an inch dumped on us in about an hour. I don't have to go to the basement to know that a bunch of that ran in through the walls. Daughter closed the brooder house for me last night, but not tightly, so the wind blew it open and I will have some cleaning to do since the rain went straight in the door. I only have a few of the youngest birds hatched this year in there, and mostly cockerels and bantams, but it isn't going to be a fun job. The meatballs must be cleaned today too. I don't let them run free like Ralphie, mine stay in a pen. I hope in the future to get them back out in tractors, but those are all full right now with teenagers waiting to be sorted through once the boys are big enough that someone will want to eat them, which for the folks who come to do that don't have to be all that big.
Took the kids to school this morning. The storm woke everyone, then after falling back asleep after the worst of it, we all ended up oversleeping a little. It is nice to have a quiet house this morning. Well, quiet except the washer and dryer and dishwasher that are going. The washer will be going for a couple of days since I am going to start cleaning my son's room with him out of the house all day now. I couldn't do it with him around, he would get mad for me going into his room. LOL! TOO BAD!!! We have tried to get him to do it for long enough, it is gross, so I am going to do it. That way too, I have some control of what condition his clothes are in when he leaves the house. He would be happy to just pick something up off the floor and put it on looking like the dog slept on it. The boy REALLY needs to find a girl he wants to impress. At least he lets me cut his hair and he even shaved his whole face clean before school instead of trying to grow that nasty billy goat scruff the young males are trying to sport. My oldest has a sort of fumanchu and I hate it, but since he lives on his own, I can't do much about it, his girlfriend likes it. SMH
One last thing, then off to get some work done...
Our dog brought a bird to the house yesterday. I don't think she killed it, just that she found it. It was a Northern Mockingbird. I had been wondering what it was I have been hearing this week that was not one of our normal songbirds. Now I know. And must be its mate was wondering what happened to it too because there was one looking like it was panicking up in the tree by the house last night. Makes me sad. My love of birds extends far beyond chickens and turkeys.
You must have posted this while I was spending 15 minutes typing mine.
We did not have any rain here last night,
I have never heard of yet alone seen a northern Mockingbird. We have them around our home in Florida, , I doubt they are "northern" though, I will look them up as soon as I finish this.
I also like all birds, Hence the huge bird feeding array I love and my DW hates. BTW tell your son not to clean up, his room, I found a wife and remained a slob..
