AWWW Ive been up watching chickens and predator attacks on youtube to see how i can improve my coop for my girls. and crazy some of the things people have caught on video. There are allot of coops that look to be solid also that predators get in to. So what do we do?? just do our best and cross our fingers?? poor birds....Sorry for all of you that have lost birds....

I went to school in Zimmerman, and seem to be doing just fine for myself. Most of the kids I went to school with did ok or better for themselves. Of course my class only had 11 kids at the most and 6 of them were imported from elsewhere and not true locals like me. We accepted them, as long as they knew they were never truly one of us.
 
And now to prove my point about eagles eating chickens or as I like to call it Lying DNR people...

Poor chicken but very cool video... And i think that is the same Eagle that was on top of my coop looking in...LOL now time to watch the next video with the cat.. And its getting late Ralphie GO TO BED...LOl
 
Hi guys! Yesterday our daughter gave birth to our 3rd grand son! Oliver Benjamin made a surprise entrance 6 wks early so he is in C-NICU for a few days, then will be hanging out in the NICU while he gains some weight, which, if he's like his brothers, won't take too long. I've had his brothers yesterday & today. Leeland, who was diagnosed mild autism, really couldn't handle all the changes this last week, had so many melt downs today. I drove 20 miles with 2 screaming/crying boys after leaving the hospital. Poor guys. I didn't want to tell my daughter that the Force is with him, still too hormonal :)

On a chicken note: Of the chicks that my Welsummer hatched, I have 2 roos. The real handsome one (Welsummer x EE) is trying to crow, really it's more of a croak, but he's adorable. @MinnesotaNice I still have all the pullets (1 is a roo) from the hatchery and yes they did refund me some $, but now it means coop additions. I suggested we getting rid of some, but DH thinks we should keep 'm all. I have to figure what boys are going to stay. I figure I can keep 4 boys (ea coop will have 18 girls), the choice is between the Speckled Sussex & the little croaker; I have one other boy in the chicklets, but he's feather footed.

I didn't send the daughter to Elk River High School. She wanted to finish out in Minnetonka with her friends so she drive for a couple of years.

They are always making low passes over  my birds.  Last year was worse for them than this year.   But I have lost about 12-15 birds to unknown something.  I will not rule eagles out, but will not blame them either for this years losses.

Yup, in this case.. DNR don't know.

Eagles will take it where they get it.

That would be more than cool, it would be severely frostbit if you aren't careful. The birds that have thinner single combs get it the worst. My poor Welsummer roosters have a tough time of it with the cold on theirs. It looks like the Bresse is a thin, floppy type comb you would have to watch and be very certain it doesn't get wet or any moisture collecting on it in winter.
