Minnesota!

LaLa: I've read just one thread on keeping chickens with quail and I've picked up on issues with folks from the south. And no issues for northern climate keepers. I think you'll just need to watch aggression from the chickens toward the smaller quail. consider a Run like enclosure with maybe walls for prevailing winds in the winter. But other than that...IDK... Do some branch/brush covers and structures for the breeding pairs to have their own places to hide and set clutches. Two Crows is your source I'm almost sure of it. And she is a pretty nice lady and knowledgable.

I'd send her a PM and have her give you some do's and don'ts with them.

Loretta wants to know why you are wearing black socks with shorts? LOL.

I was dressed formally She knows I like to dress up, so I wear socks with my sandals, I am done it for years. I started doing it when my kids where in Jr High, It drove them nuts, and they were never late when I had to pick them up at school. They did not want me coming in looking for them.

Ralphie, thanks for the math on the mixing the feed. Numbers are hard for me (not joking there - they just don't make sense to me. but I can easily do budget projections and manage $$ especially if it isn't my own:) )

lol, I have no idea what disease they get from chickens, and I sure wasn't going to ask on that thread!

and tonight I've been reading various university and dnr sites about bobwhites, and now I think the protein level for their age should be closer to 20%. geesh. I have 50 pounds of 28% gamebird grower/starter in crumbles. Well, I figure I can maybe throw a little in with the chickens, they could use a protein boost...and if I keep it to a tiny part of their feed it shouldn't influence it too much. And I can dilute the bobwhite feed with some chicken feed to reduce their protein level. dang!

I guess the famous bobwhite call (i sure never heard it before) is a breeding call and won't happen til spring.

in the fall, they naturally form coveys and in the spring separate out into breeding pairs. So maybe come spring I'll have to separate them out.....how I don't know.
We have both been on this site long enough to know, if you want professional help, you leave this site and look for University info. Too too too many inter web experts on this site that hear one way and think it is gospel and will argue until they are blue in the face theirs in the only way. I know people who raise both, near each other, and I haven't heard boo about any disease exchange. Like most game birds, I think they would carry diseases that are not symptomatic with them but harmful to domestics like chickens. Just my guess. I plan to do lots more reading up on quail this fall and winter.
