Minnesota!

Get rid of any wild bird feeders perhaps. I did that this spring when it hit. I figure that may reduce one potential infection vector.

That and pray to the Good Lord....

A good idea, I'll move mine to the other side of the yard.

I find it interesting that none of the wild birds tested (at least according to the MPR report this morning) have tested positive for AI.

I'll be denying access to the birds. We don't live very close to any major poultry farms.

What, if anything, is everyone doing to prepare for the AI?

I look.at it as something I cannot not completely control. Sure I can be careful. Making sure I dont do anything that would.expose my birds to potential virus. But after that its mother natures will.

P.s I mean that by not walking around another poultry barn/coop with the shoes and clothing I may use with my own birds.

Hey all its been 24 pages since I have been around. So far I think out of my original 16 hens I have 4 laying now. Havent had any problems with soft shells or anything(knock on wood.) I even got a double yoker on sunday. The DGF is back in school so I have been baching it the last few weeks. Harvest is busy as ever. The roo I got from erlibrd is looking beautiful as ever.

Have a wonderful day everybody!!

Long time no see! How is the harvest? I saw my first combine in the field down here doing beans last night. Can't believe how quick everything dried up!

Its going pretty good.so far. We have been in the field 11 days. We finished our early variety beans last night...well this morning technically lol. Only 2300 left to go then on to sunflowers!
Ralphie would be pleased to hear that we have been demoing a 9230 case combine. Its a good combine but it sure is ugly.

Hi @gofeedthegirls. You sound busy and enjoying the harvest too. Post some pics of those sun flower fields. My mom has some friends up that way that raise sunflowers. Dave and Marge Bakke ( I think that's the spelling) they have retired and have the kids doing it now. But I have memories of those fields. Gorgeous.

If it were just that the confinements were going to be effected like in Spring, I wouldn't do a thing. BUT a lot of those flocks that were infected and put down, that got pushed into fields, or spread on fields where any old wild critter could get to it, and they did. So, if the virus in those instances was not killed, then it is out in the open and can sweep down through with all the bird movements we are going to have. So, to not do anything could having one wishing they did. That is why they said it could come back with a vengeance in the fall. I hope it all got killed like it was supposed to be, but I am not holding my breath. I am going to be sealing off the sparrow holes and accesses and closing the birds in earlier this year. Hardware cloth will cover any openings I will have for fresh air to get in. I am also making a sparrow trap to get rid of those messy, nasty things along with their starling buddies.
