No. I am actually just outside Rothsay. Between Rothsay and Fergus falls. Or 16 miles or so from Barnesville. So I am in lakes country. Close though. I am 45 minutes from Fargo.

A deal of the life ]time!!!

I have 4 maybe 5 Creamette Rooster I have to get rid of. I only want to over winter 3-4 of them.

If you want the pretty blue eggs in your EE. these could help, if I understand the whole egg color stuff right. They are nice looking birds. They are either show quality or darn near it. I will trade them for a BA rooster or a future draft choice. I hate to butcher them they are so good looking. I can try to get you some pictures, they are a little flighty as I have not treated than as pets. I will have to do something to get rid of them or I will not have a feather on the pullets/hens back come spring.

I think they look better than their father does. They seem to have gotten a bigger crest from their mothers.


Let me know, what you have or might have in the future, They have 2 weeks from today before they go to freezer camp. Unless I figure out another plan. I do not think I dare put them in the rooster pen, as Ed might not care for them.


Speaking of rooster pen, I put the Guinea in it, after all it was Guinea Gulag way before it was the rooster pen. I figure she should do ok in there. If not, oh well...

I had a bad time rounding up my CX's tonight. I sat and talked to them, like I do every night, and one came up to get held. I think it is the same one that comes every night but there is no way to tell. So..... I carried her/him to the house and gave him/her 2 red rings and one blue one. If he/she is the same one, he/she has earned a pardon. He/she talked to me all the way to the house. I held him/her while my DW put the bands on him/her, she chatted away.

When I got back to the CX's it sat on my lap for about 10 minutes before deciding to get down. Camp day will suck this year they are way too friendly

I then went to the shed to get feed for the roosters, I have my south doors open and I saw a Baby grey turkey about 300 yards out in the south end of the field. I went and got it and found all 3 of Ethel's babies down there chasing bugs and loving life. It tool me 15 minutes to get them back to the house, they were not in a hurry and stopped to chase and eat bugs the whole way.

When I was feeding the CX's I happened to see the same bird further out this time by the old apple tree. I went and got them again same slow walk back. This time they went into the pen. I am not sure I should let them out tomorrow, the field is wide open, surrounded by large pines and less than 100 yards from the tamarack swamp. What do you think?

Oh and to make bedtime even longer, the two old creamettes went into the wrong coop again and forced me to capture them and carry them back to theirs..

WHY!!!!! Another broody!!!! Thos one has been broody 3 times this year!! I am scared that this spring I will have alot of broodys this spring. Hopefully that will include the geese and muscovy hen.

DW holding down the market booth. We decided we needed some signage since we probably would be scolded for bringing a live chicken to the park, so i took a scrap of plywood to my band saw and free handed the chicken in a nest then painted it yesterday. The bottom part is a 1x6 scrap that was kind of beat up so I painted that too. back to the scrap bin for some more lumber and i threw together a little easel to set it all on. I thought it looked like something a girl probably would find on pinterest. we got some compliments on the chicken I also love to see my RIR pullets getting comfy in the nest boxes. They were laying on the floor behind the boxes before i reorganized.

I love both your sign and your nest boxes!! Great idea. I never thought of using crates.

Now for the real reason I posted, other than being a posting addict, The guinea formerly on Death Row survived his first night in the general population. Ed refrained from killing her as did Ed's boys. I am impressed Ed could control himself and others. I am thinking of putting my Creamette Roosters in the Gulag too. They have never been part of the main flock as they are youngsters. Do you think they will be accepted or will I have problems?

They were kind of free ranging with the main flock but as chicks not mature ( or nearly mature) birds.

Yesterday I was at a heritage retreat with my daughter and met an individual. He raises chickens every year and gives them away because he doesn't want to take care of them over the winter. In November I'm getting four free laying hens.

Only if he wants to end up in the freezers
