Minnesota!

Sold out of eggs at the farmers market in under an hour this morning. $4 a dozen and had quite a few people asking for our contact info so we can tell them when we will be back.

I guess we have an untapped market here. We were the only people selling eggs today

We havent been getting that many eggs lately. But everyone is molting. The brahmas dont have feathered feet any more. Its just pin feathers all down the legs.

THe lost quail came back....I was out there just before true dawn and I could hear the quail in the pen calling for the rooster (never heard them before unless I was right at the pen, they are quiet!!) and as soon as I got near the coop I saw the little rooster calling back pathetically and heading to the coop. All I had to do was open the door to the run.

I was surprised no one tried to come out, but the little rooster scurried in and there was a reunion! They all got in a huddle and kind of stayed that way. All very cautious in the pen, as if there is a monster hiding in the ragweed.

Still not sure what I am going to do come winter with water for them. They walk right through the water dish - I've switched them to a chick waterer which will work fine, but in winter? A dog dish would be way too big. An oil pan heater type thingy....same deal. maybe they will only get water once a day....what do they do in the wild?

klop klop, lucky that you can see at the farmers market.

Southern MN. We have. Been selling word of mouth since July and have yet to have any 'excess' eggs. We always sell out. We even upped to price from $3 to $4 since we won't be getting the egg cartons back and people were lining up still.

I was just out filling chicken water and there was Waiting line at the nests and I was like 'yes my pretties... Lay! Lay!'

There wouldn't be a backup if they would use the top row, but they don't seem to like to use it yet (just reorganized the boxes earlier this week)

DW holding down the market booth. We decided we needed some signage since we probably would be scolded for bringing a live chicken to the park, so i took a scrap of plywood to my band saw and free handed the chicken in a nest then painted it yesterday. The bottom part is a 1x6 scrap that was kind of beat up so I painted that too. back to the scrap bin for some more lumber and i threw together a little easel to set it all on. I thought it looked like something a girl probably would find on pinterest. we got some compliments on the chicken

I also love to see my RIR pullets getting comfy in the nest boxes. They were laying on the floor behind the boxes before i reorganized.

I used to live just outside Austin MN. My old neighbors had seriously over 100 chickens. They raised them all organic and ground most of their own feed. Anyway they used to sell for $4.50 per dozen and couldn't keep up!! I don't know if we have a market like that here... Although with store bought egg prices climbing you never know. So many people are scared to try them and there are a lot of farms in this area. I am on the edge of the red river valley.

The boys are back from their early morning shoot. They got 15 ducks with their buddies. All put together. DH and DS brought home a wood duck drake, mallard hen, two blue bills, and a greened wing teal. Gorgeous birds. DS threw the little teal around the yard for Sadie and she gets it. No problems with the feathers in her mouth. She was too young to go out today though we think. Needs a little more time. She's going to be a great birding dog though. Lots of good things she's doing.

Lots of naughty things too like a big hole chewed out of my new outdoor rug.

I'm always amazed how beautiful these birds are.
