Minnesota!

Mix is right. But I have seen a lot of pictures of Legbars that there seems to be little consistency in the color of the breed, then some have crests and some don't. I like to stick with the tried and true breeds, unless am playing with a fun pairing like my Barred bantam hen with a Silkie or Faverolle. I need to take some of those pictures!

I beg to differ, which I rarely do because you have forgotten more about chickens than I will ever know. I love my Cream legbars. They are eye candy to the 9th degree. Almost all of mine look the same but that I assume s natural coming from the breeding trio I got from Heidi.

I will never make money on chickens, I have them because I enjoy them. Junior is a mix and he is a handsome fellow. Considering his parents were both hatchery stock, I could not ask for better. I have posted pictures but pictures do him no justice.

I have a little Creamette EE cross, it is the cutest teenage bird in the flock.

and when I saw Scandia's picture I assumed Creamer and something, but his coloring is very close to my creamers. ( I really do not understand why the people on the cream legbar threads hate my nicknames). I think her rooster is pure eye candy. To me eye candy beats everything else.

I do not want consistency in my birds, I want variety in most of them. The "pure" breeds I will keep pure, if I can. My problem is I want too much! lol

Anyways I just wanted to voice opposition to your view while being respectful of your knowledge and experience.

That was good, BUT you should hear her sons  reaction when she found she was meeting "internet" people.

Such good sons. Really.
It makes sense to me. My Papa is 82 and has suddenly started listening to daytime TV commercials targeting seniors. My mother clicks on internet links without thinking and wonders why she is getting a gazillion spam mails a day.
Bless their hearts.

My kids haven't reached the age yet where they think they can tell me how to live my life.  My oldest sent me a video and said it reminded him of me with them (my kids).  It was of Hulk and Loki, from the Avengers, where Hulk grabs Loki and slams him on the ground a few times.  I said, "Specifically, does it remind you of the morning you called me the B word?"  He answered to the affirmative.  LOL  Just once, that is all it takes ;)  He is 6-foot, I am 5'2", but he still knows not to mess with - not that he would now.  Kids, they are so funny sometimes.

Reminds me of a conversation with my nine year old..
I'm face to face with her and remind her that if she chooses to keep her present attitude her day will not go as she had hoped. By the end of my few quiet sentences her eyes are filling with tears. It breaks my heart on the inside but despite my stumbles I'll never break my promise to be her best mommy in the world. :)

@Minniechickmama Where are you headed for your breeds of chickens? Are you still going for egg color? Or Easy Minnesota Cold hardy Breeds? I know you're cutting back and thinking Wyandottes back...but what do you think of dominiques? I guess as a future customer I kinda want to go with Egg color but I also like the eye candy I get with the Wyandottes and those stripes. IDK...fickle customer...can't make up my mind.

Just talked to the chainsaw place about my fancy broken saw. They had to order special tools from Husqvarna to work on it and are waiting for them to arrive before they can even figure out what happened. I guess I wont be cutting up my down tree any time too soon!

I know very little compared to some, but I don't completely disagree with you. Eye Candy is great! That is why I do the Easter Eggers, you never know what you are going to get, really, but the prettiest ones always seem to end up being cockerels.

If I had a mantra it would be variety is the spice of life. I started this venture with over 30 varieties of chickens, I just couldn't make up my mind. But since I am breeding pure and enjoy showing, I like to stick with birds I feel are attractive and useful, that I can still put in a show cage and not embarrass myself. Each breed I keep has a functional aspect that keeps them here.
Not everyone is into chickens for the same reason and I don't want to bash anyone's birds if they are suitable for them, I hope you don't think I was bashing your amazing and gem encrusting machines? I would just not have them here.

Starting out in the chicken life, I wanted many different breeds to see if any caught my attention.
My favorites are the Jersey Giants and BuffOrps. The Giant roosters look like gangly teenagers but I can see what they will be.

The others will live out their days with us unless they become a PITA like Delaware Dwayne and end up as soup.

The Buckeyes and New Hampshires are definitely going to be mainstays. The Buckeyes are a light egg color, and the NH are a bit darker, between the Bucks and the Wellies. I will likely keep the Welsummers because they are just such a nice bird and lay those dark eggs. The Easter Eggers and/or Ameraucanas will be around for the long haul too. Cochins keep me on the fence. I ended up with 4 pullets I just had to watch grow out and I am not disappointed in doing so, and I have a 3 or 4 gorgeous cockerels, plus 2 Blue cocks I will use this year after all. Cornish I will keep as long as I can afford to, but those are my selling stuff, those are my fun and selling for breeding purposes. I may bring in one other breed at some point, but not in a rush to do so. I like so many that it is difficult to decide, but I am leaning toward bringing the Barnevelders back because they are just such a sweet and wonderful breed, and beautiful - same color as the Dark Cornish, but a style of chicken completely different. Dang, woman! Now you have me thinking about other breeds again!

You HAD to say Jersey Giants, didn't you? Yes, I do intend to get Whites from a friend this coming year. For a minute I had a senior moment and forget about that.
