Minnesota!

Talked to Dr.Porter. im going to send him pics and write up a timeline on what has happened with her. he said he is interested and is curious. he will look it over and get back to me. As long as she seems fine now just let her be as long as i dont think its contagious and if it is chances are the other girls would by now be showing signs.

Well, this morning I am pretty convinced chickens are better creatures than I am. They are out in this cold, ankles deep in snow, just loving life. I stood out there for 5 minutes and think I may need to have some toes removed. We got 2 eggs today, two of my freeloading snuggle chickens started laying a week ago at about 33 weeks old. My crested cream legbar lays olive colored eggs...not blue, and my super blue egg layer (ameraucana x leghorn) is now dubbed a barely-blue egg layer. If you squint really hard her eggs are blue, if they still look white, press on your eyeballs really hard and look again ;) It looks like the Jersey will be next. If anyone has any guesses what the cross of this massive 7+ lb hen is, have at it. We were told Swedish flower x blue Orpington. I am thinking blue jersey x eagle x Swedish flower. She is huge, dopey, and the most unique colored chicken I've seen.

Love the eggs, I don't know what she is, but she is lovely!

I definitely see the combination of those two breeds in her. That speckly pattern is definitely a sign of SF and the blue in the neck is easy from Blue Orp. She is a pretty girl.

This time of year you can't predict when the girls who were hatched in spring are going to lay. It depends mostly on light, but they tend to be slower even with it. I have one whole pen that has only given me 3 eggs from one pullet so far this fall. I don't worry too much though, they will start rolling them out again soon.

Lala I know how you feel. My grandma died in 2013 and the holidays are horrible. Even though it is no fun without her she was suffering so bad from cancer that she couldnt even move or talk. And knowing that it makes it 10 times easier.

Ditto Holm... My grandma died 11/26/2013, 2 years ago yesterday. My grandparents pretty much raised me though... Grandpa died way back in 1987 from cancer, so it was just Grandma and I since then. When I finished college, I moved back home to help her out again. Holiday especially are tough! I went into work yesterday for a 10 hour shift and was thankful for all the people there to keep my mind off it.

I have ducklings hatching today. Didn't think these eggs were even fertile ... I had this wild hair to throw them in the incubator anyways. Well...looks like I have lil deep keeled exhibition rouens popping out. Its going to be too cold to move them outside for a longgggg time. Ughhhh
