I too think there is something more going on than just a molt. I would not put her out with the others until she is doing way better or yes, they could kill her, plus, I think she needs to be warm for awhile. have you checked for mites? poor thing...

A guy at work said he threw some minows in his chickens water this summer, said it was hilarious watching them bob for minnows, the chickens loved them! sorry about the dog bite, ouch!

I don't understand how people can be so cruel. thank you for giving him a loving home. is he all better from his mishap a few weeks ago? or am I mixing him up with one of your other puppies?

yep he was the 1 that fell on the wooden stake and had to have surgery.. poor thing... but i am spoiling him as much as i can,,,

GUYS! i think i found out what is ailing my leghorn! she has been baffling me. alert but wont stand up.... she has a poopy bum from sitting down and pooping so we brought her up for a bath. DW held and i scrubbed. I went to wash her feed a lo and behold, right in the middle of one of her little foot pads is a black scabby bit i peeled it off and squeezed out some yellowish gook

I bandaged it up with some neosporin for now. I made her another scrambled egg and she ate the whole thing! so I made her a pumpkin puree omlet plus some apple slices and a bowl of chicken crumbles.

Any advice on how to keep after her foot besides keeping clean bandages and cream on it? I will try and do some googling on bumblefoot but any advice is always appreciated.

Isnt it funny how well we will feed our chickens,,LOL sometimes better then we feed ourselves..

that's great! that sticky stretchy bright colored vet wrap works great. duct tape over gauze is another option...it will fall off eventually. You just use a very small piece of gauze in the wound area, and then you use as little duct tape as you can to hold it in place and be certain it isn't tight.

i put the ointment on a bandaid and then wrapped medical tape around it loosely. i will see how that works tonight and then adjust tomorow. i have several kinds of medical tape.

@KlopKlop I'm glad you fo found the infection. Hopefully it isn't systemic yet.

All you guys amaze me with how talented you all are. I don't like sewing or crafty stuff, my coop is the first woodworking type project I've done (I liked that except for the measuring part). I don't mind mechanical stuff, but now If I start something that my DS has to finish I can tell he gets a bit miffed as why I didn't just let him do it. I like to cook, but cooking for 2 isn't the same as cooking for 150. I guess my claim to fame is I'm pretty bomb proof when it comes to emergencies & can bandage most anything. I used to be a first aide instructor & would go around to Scout groups for their badges. When it came time to learn bandaging They always wanted to stump me on the hardest thing to bandage. Always could got it; little did they know I live by tape.

Speaking of the new coop...I almost have it done! Finished the west wall & dig in the run wire today. I have where I want the roosts, just ran out of time to get them up. Then move some of the nest boxes over from the other coop & smooth out the mud/dirt in the run. Then I'll see if the girls like it

I had a ton of scrape 1x6 & 1x1 left over from the remodel at our store. It's just been taking up space for 3yrs now. Chicken coop is as good as any place to use it. However it makes it look really nice! I find I want to put up molding to give it that finished look.

I bought the 8'x10' shed & hired most of the run. I did the hardware cloth & pop tunnel (the run & coop aren't attached because the ground hadn't settled. It will need to be re-leveled next year.)

Windows face west. That was what I finished today.

Maybe I can decorate it next year. I want to add some window boxes.
