Minnesota!

Offend me? Ha!! Feel free.

Edited to say I eat granola every day and veggies are my favorite. Doc says it is from some surgeries I had 34 years ago. Scar tissue. Go figure.
It wasn't you I was worried about offending

I have a feeling you and I might have a similar sense of humor.
That stinks though when you have to pay later in life for something that happened so long ago.

So, it was a balmy 5-degrees here this morning. I had to take DD to catch the bus to a dance invite in Lake City, and she had to be on the bus at 7:00. Of course, they couldn't just pick her up on the way passed our house....

I then had to take DS almost an hour later to go to work, and on the way back saw a coyote run across the field across the road. I am glad my birds are all locked up. I am thinking I may need to put wire on the inside of the frame at the ends of the hoop I made for the bachelors. I am worried my cat, Jerome, is going to tear up the plastic on it. The boys seem fairly happy, except the ones who took to scrapping yesterday morning. Dummies. There aren't any girls to be seen, yet, they want to beat each other up.
Here you can see most of them all cozy with a nice fat layer of straw for their floor:

I got a Seed Savers catalog yesterday and a gift certificate for my sister. I hate her, she has this nice greenhouse that used to be the shelter for the kids' 4-H steers. After the kids graduated and went to college, they converted it. She grew some great looking produce last year. Her husband and son run a composting business alongside their dairy farm and horse stable, so she gets plenty of rich compost to use too.
I don't really hate her, she is my favorite sis. (I have 6, well, now just 5, so I can have a favorite ;))
I love Seed Savers. I use a couple of things from Burpee though, some tried and true stuff.
I keep wanting to plant a garden or some gardens for the chickens in the pasture that I can keep fenced off until the produce matures to feed to them. I should grow kale and dry it to put in their food, that stuff is SO easy to grow and grows like crazy too!

I think I will be inside most of the day today, just a little too cold for my liking. I may head out to do some work in the coop this afternoon when it warms a bit. I think it is time for the work overalls. Brrr!

@cottonlouie I just watched on the weather page, a video about the extreme weather of this year. Cotton, MN pegged the record low of -42. Congratulations! Well, maybe not congrats, but it is always nice to be acknowledged, right?

So, first winter with chickens and goats. Chicken poop frozen in the coop....I'm scared (still) that it's too cold in there. The chickens were up moving around the coop and went out for awhile in the porch...when they went back into the coop the didn't huddle but instead just kind of hung out. So....they are fine....right? The goats seemed chilly....i guess because they were more jumpy than usual. I'm a heckuva nervous mamma.

yup, blanchranch is right. They are fine. Everytime you are worried, go stick your fingers under their feathers!

There isn't so much to do for them in the winter. They just hang out - no bugs to chase, etc. You can toss some scratch in the bedding to give them something to hunt for. When the girls get locked up in bitter bitter, I mean -30 below not the windchill, just the temp, and then I don't let them out, I put out a flock block for them to amuse themselves.

Course, having said that, I admit that when I went to check on Goldie, and was feeding her raw hamburger and it froze solid in minutes......I put out a heat lamp for her. Because she is eating so little and healing. I noticed she didn't care, didn't go under it.

And one of my hens just decided to molt, she was hanging out with goldie in the coop, feeling miserable. I gave her some hamburger too. That hamburger from target that is ground to look like worms? well, Goldie thought it might be a worm too, and ate maybe a tablespoon.

Back to cleaning. Still have to vacumn, and come up with a dessert and make it. Meatballs are done, and smelling divine!

Meatballs? We do Spaghetti and Meatballs for Christmas Eve because it was the only thing that would keep the kids at the table. This isn't what you are speaking of is it? It would be shocking to know someone else did this.
