Minnesota!

You remember that neighbor who lives about a third of a mile or a half mile down the road? the one with the dog that "found" Goldie? Well, I was coming out of the coop this morning and there was that danged dog barking at me! I could not believe it. I yelled holy hell at the dog, and it headed home. Got on the phone with the neighbor, who is a nice guy, and tried to be polite - its christmas morning - but I was upset.

Think that the phone call was useless. The guy will probably keep them close to home but in a few weeks will lapse and let the dog run free. My partner says I should get a paint gun (since I can't bring myself to shoot the poor thing not to mention I don' t own a gun, not to mention aiming is a whole nother story) and tag the dog.

It is very discouraging.
I still think a pellet gun that would not penetrate the skin would scare these animals enough so they wouldn't come back.

I have an electric fence around the west run to the coop.  I added on another 4 or 5 hundred feet on the east and that side doesn't have electric fence, nor is there fencing laid on the ground to prevent digging in.

Part of my ire is that the last hen before Goldie was taken when I walked into the house to change from work clothes, and literally still was taking off a shirt when the hen was taken - so maybe 2 minutes.  Even if I watch the hens/supervise them when they are in the garden or free ranging, you know I will walk inside the coop, or to the house for a second.

Yeah.  I am thinking I could legally shoot and kill the dogs on my property.  I don't have the stomach to do that. Yet.  Before doing anything like that I would check with the sheriff.  And it maybe that shooting to kill would be fine, but paint ball might be considered ill treatment of the animal.  I don't know.

that was my train of thought too.

HI all, so question for Minnie, Lala, and any other long time chicken owners. So Cluck-Cluck has this way of shaking her neck, it looks really funny, none of my other birds have ever done it, she is the only one I have seen do it, and she has done it since she was a chick. She does it when she is eating mostly I believe. I finally got the video uploaded today, have any of you seen this type of behavior before? like I said, she is 19 months old and has been doing it her whole life, so it is not a disease or anything... Just a habit? lol she does it right at the end of the short video, she is the buff oprington...

cluckies, hopefully minnie will have seen something like that, but I sure haven't.

I don't think it is habit...but am clueless.

Those are happy looking chickens, though!
