Minnesota!

That is a new word used to describe me, it is usually something 'stubborn, bull-headed b****, just like your father!"
I like enterprising.
I have a confession, most of the things I do on my own are because I have little to no patience to see other people doing it the wrong way. LOL!!
I am so much the same way! I consider myself a patient person, but I will never wait around for somebody to do something for me that I can do myself. If I dont know how, I learn.

Am with both of you on that!

My family thinks I'm impulsive but they don't see how much thought, research and learning goes into any action I take.

Her beak just needs to be trimmed. Use a dog nail trimmer or even human nail clipper to trim that extra off. I have to go through all my silkies every few months and do their beaks and toenails. They don't seem to forage around near as much as other breeds and wear them down. At least the fluffy ones anyways....
going to go home tonight and give that danged silkie a once over to see if she needs a hair trim or a beak trim. who knew?

Yes! The lovely long and curly toenails! It is easier keeping Silkies in a wire hutch, their feet stay m
what? another task for silkies? why oh why keep them? I have the single white one that came with the other pullets this fall. shoot, she is a dr seuss type critter, and I am not very attached to her. she just doesn't seem like a chicken to me.

fine, I will get sue to hold her and I'll do her hair and her nails and her beak. geesh!

You don't need anyone to hold them for you. Wrap a towel around their wings and they will stay still... Or tuck them upside down in the crook of your arm and do both the beak and toenails. It only take a minute...

I always tell people when they are getting silkies is that they are not much like regular chickens. A lot more maintenance when you get into the fluffy show birds. If you like putzing with them a lot, silkies and polish are a great breed. If you want a productive layer or meat bird, they don't exactly fit the bill.

You can keep Silkies with other larger breeds, but they will never look as good. They are not so flighty, but that is, I think, because they can't see anything. They are cute and make great pet chickens though.
Feather-footed breeds are all sort of a pain in the winter to keep clean though at my place, especially when they don't want to roost and hunker under the roost and get pooped on. What kind I expect from something who's brain is so small?

Hello I am interested in getting pigeons soon, and am looking for a good place to get them. Does anyone have pigeons for sale, or know someone who does? I'm not picky about the breed, preferably just a normal barn pigeon. Thank you!

I think EJB has talked about raising pigeons but I don't know if he still does. He would probably have good information to share with you on the subject

There is a pigeon show in New Ulm at the fairgrounds on Feb. 13th. There will be a sale section there. Otherwise you should be able to pick some up at the Game Breeder's sale in Hutchinson on Feb. 20th. I've done the newsletter for the MN State Pigeon Association for past few years. Been raising and showing them for a long time...
