They are an Oriental breed but I am not sure. I want to say Malays but they may be some other breed similar to them. That just hit my funny bone, really good!

Morning everyone!

The babies are doing well. We have the brooder set up on our kitchen table so my parents breakfast with them. The hatched chick has perked up so much! She's walking better, eating and drinking and snoozing with her kin.

I'm giving the remaining eggs until Monday to hatch and that's it.

As of this morning no other chickens are showing signs of Marek's. :)

I just set over 9 dozen eggs yesterday. NUTS!!! Its still cold here for a few more months and that will equate to ALOT of babies if they are all fertile. Last week's batch I set 4 dozen and only 4 eggs out of the whole works are developing. It was so dang cold that they had to be partially froze and just not split open. I already have over 60 chicks and juveniles between the house and garage brooders that are up to 3 months old.

Last night I confiscated beer boxes from work before they broke them down for recycling. It was a new security guard so of course I got the 20 questions on why I wanted all them. So I had to whip out the old smart phone and show him a few pictures. They sure come in handy when people come for chicks or bringing stuff to swaps. Nice and sturdy with handles. Speaking of swaps....after a whole year with none, I'm super excited to go to the Game Breeders swap in Hutchinson on Feb. 20th.

oh oh scandia, we might have to do a chicken intervention.

loving the icicles the warm weather has been bringing:

and the rabbit that is loving the water and feed in the run, not to mention the hay:

not that I want that rabbit around. not good for the garden, and probably brings mites etc into the run when it is messing around in the hay under the coop.

Here is the info for the Hutch swap:
* February 20 - MN Game Breeders Swap, McLeod Co. Fairgrounds 840 Century Avenue Southwest Hutchinson, MN 55350. 7am, $5 admission, contact Doug Randall (320) 236-2270 or (320) 333-7111

Lots of game birds, ornamental pheasants and ducks, peafowl, swans. Lots of rabbits, guinea pigs, and small pocket pets too. Usually a few people there with small house birds. Tons of poultry, just depends on who shows up.
