My broody loved it when I would mix water in the feed rather than having each and it won't spill so easily. Soupy it'll thicken as it sits.

Mothers day I was at my brothers place to drop off candy for my mom as she was there. He told me he learned about this new rare breed and a friend of his said tsc had them for 50 cents a chick and that I should hurry and get some with his insider knowledge. When asked he said they are smaller so help clear bugs better than other chickens. He said they are called bawtawns. When I asked him to spell it he said B-A-N-T-A-M. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. He asked me what was so funny, I was waving my hand trying to catch my breath, and barely said mom please tell him Before I cracked up again. It was so heart breaking he still swears they are rare and that I'm stupid.

@Minniechickmama what do you have for left over chicks. Hoping for a colorful egg basket

I have a nice mix of them from the last two hatches, plus bawtawns of a variety of colors from my fun project. I don't know how they do on getting at bugs, but they seem to be good layers!

@lilmynx13 I would have been peeing my pants over that one!

Okay, I have quite a few EEs, a couple of Wellies, a couple of Buckeyes. In an older group I have some New Hampshires and maybe some Buckeyes and probably some of those bantam crosses. I have more due to hatch tomorrow, about 16 are Buckeyes that I really don't want to keep around since I have way more than enough from that rooster who sired them. I set them in hopes to ship, but it isn't enough to fill the order. I have about as many due in about 12 days too.
Then I have some Silkies coming out too, and bantam Faverolles, but I think I am done with those crosses for this year, possibly for always since I think I am getting out of the bawtawns. You know, I will be making wise cracks about that for a while!

I am trying to keep myself occupied. came home to a ripped porch screen and a missing little sweet cat who is dumber than a stump. been in the rain and walking through the woods, across the hayfields and plowed fields, driving around. can't find her. she is a house cat. my other cat, who was a stray, of course, stayed in.
I"ve talked to the neighbors, and there isnt anything more I can do.

I figure....she went after something and can't find her way home in the wet rain - no scent.

the broody who is supposed to hatch tomorrow was making the little chuckling noises to the eggs. maybe there will be new chicks in the morning. and maybe my Lucy will find her way home.

@Minniechickmama i have up to 4 eggs under my broody now that should be Rainbow over cornish. i can usually tell them apart by size but it is still a guess. hoping for some nice chunky babies!

the older hen is sitting real well. the other one i have my doubts... she likes to get excited and has scooted her nest around a few times now.

Keep me in mind for EE pullets depending on the color they are likely to lay. I'm such a snob. Possibly some of your nice dark egg layers and olive eggers.now I'm doing chicken math. My six pack are feathering out nicely. I'm sorry I don't want any of your bawtawns I simply can't afford to buy such a rare breed for a luxury out of my price range. Although I'm sure yours are the Cadillac kind.

Vroom vroom! Actually, other than being cute and lots of different colors and patterns coming out, they are mutts.
I have several Blue EEs that should lay green or olive eggs....

Holm: What breed is the chicken in your photos that has the top notch? a polish mix or ...? Absolutely adorable! I have one similar-shes a mix of some sort, all black with 2 white feathers in her half Mohawk :) And she lays a blue-green egg.

I now have 15 out of 27 LF Salmon Faverolles chicks hatched (Day 21 today)!! So excited. I still have some unspoken for if anyone is interested? I live just over the MN/WI border. I am trying a Mother Heater Pad this time to see how it goes...
