I went out to visit the girls this morning and my beautiful 5 month old buff Silke pullet Blanche was crowing. I guess she needs a name change. I was thinking the "Kernel" as in Sanders.

Are you in a part of Forest Lake where you can keep roosters?

I'm actually in Columbus. I've not checked, but figured I'd let it ride cuz he is young and quiet so far. He has only crowed 3 times. Now he seems ashamed that he made the noise and hides.

I think it's so funny when roosters start crowing. Like puberty, only louder.

He has only done it 3 or 4 times that day and since then he has been acting ashamed of himself. Only doing a quiet little day for the silkie pullet who had not started laying.

If your neighbors don't mind and he's not obnoxious about it, keeping him may be a non-issue.

I usually have a Silkie on hand and I swear they don't lay eggs! Them and my Cochins. Anti-egg layers.

Do you keep them around for brooding?

You won't believe this, but they've never gone broody. I got Cochins for brooding and mine are like forget about it.....

Yeah, I'm wondering about that. My two Cochins are living the carefree life, not a sign of broodiness! What's up with that?

Don't you ladies know, they will only go broody at the most inconvenient times of the year.

Just call me a pushover. Someone from FB wanted to get rid of one Cayuga duckling. Guess where that little cutie is?
