Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed

Quote:
Um, no. Ostriches are MUCH too big to cross with chickens. A boy ostrich would squish a hen and a rooster could never mate with an ostrich.

I don't think guinea chickens lay, either.

Artificial insemination is a way to make it work. The guineas would lay, just like any female. The eggs would not be viable.

Hi from Miracle,

I'm a free range bird now

and the sun came out so I spent most of the day looking around for things to eat in the grass. There isn't much to eat out there in that brown grass so when I get hungry I just go back in the coop to eat and drink. The water in the mud puddles tastes pretty good though. All the chickens and guineas like the puddle water the best. The water in the coop is clear and doesn't have as much flavor.

Sweetie, my chicken friend with the broken leg, got her cast off today. Her leg is well now but not exactly staight. She still has a little limp but she is happy to have the cast off. She stayed in the coop with me a lot when she first broke her leg so we are friends. Little Red stayed in the coop with me too. Nobody knew why she stayed in the coop but I knew. She was hiding from Warlock. He wanted to be her rooster but she didn't like him. When Warlock moved to a new home Little Red stopped staying in the coop all the time. She went back outside and started foraging with all the other chickens. She is so happy now.

Today was picture day because it is my birthday. I love the way the sun shines on my feathers. They don't look like guinea feathers. They don't look like chicken feathers. They look like Miracle feathers and I really like them.

Every night before dark when all the birds are on the roost Mena comes in to count us and lock the door. She makes sure we are all there. First she counts the guineas 1,2,3,4.........12 and a half. Then she counts the chickens 1,2,3,4..........11 and a half. The half is me and she counts me twice!

Goodbye!

Boy Miracle, you are the prettiest Guinhen I have ever laid eyes on.
I am sooo glad that you have found your way out with the free range birds and look at you, you come into the coop at dusk and you are all grown up now.

Have a wonderful life, it is so very important that you live a normal life along with your friends.

Let us know when Mena finds out if you are a girl or a boy !!!

Mena: have you seen Miracle fly yet ? Just wondering how M is doing with this. Also, is M showing signs of running with the flock of Guineas ? Glad you are being so good with M. I know it MUST be hard to let M out with the other birds when He/She is such a specail bird.

Miracle, my how big you've grown. Yah grass doesn't look very good in winter. The spring rains will be coming soon and bring nice green grass shoots with it. I bet those will taste mighty sweet.

Does it bother you that your father Warlock moved away? Hope you got a special treat for Valentine's Day, I'm sure you would share it with your friends. Love to you and hope you write often.

Hi Guinea Goonie,

Yes, Miracle can fly well. The roost is close to 7ft high and M reaches it easily. It has been hard to let go and I'm always afraid something will happen. If it does it does. I'll do the best I can but still let M be a bird. As for running with the flock - M and the 2 guineas that hatched with him are their own sub flock. They stay together but don't mix with the older birds except in the coop. They all come together to eat there but often the little ones come into the coop at different times to avoid the older birds. They fill up and get out of the way. When I take treats Miracle will mix it up with the best of them. I spoil him a little and make sure he gets more than his share.

I always appreciate your input.

This is Mena. Miracle has gone to roost. It has rained all winter so I'm not sure I'll be able to tell when that first "spring rain" gets here. Miracle's life is much easier since Warlock left because Warlock was mean to him. I have some sad news about Warlock though. A few days after he moved away he flew into a dog pen with 3 Bassett Hounds. (the new owners had clipped his wings but somehow he was still able to fly) Warlock intended to help the dogs eat their dog food but instead, he became chicken dinner. I didn't tell Miracle.

I'm so glad Miracle is still doing well! He is such a beautiful bird, it makes me happy to see him.

It sounds like he's having a great life and enjoying free-ranging!

I'm sorry to hear about Warlock... How sad.
