Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed

I contacted the poultry science department at the university and was told there was no blood test to determine sex. They said if it is female it will begin to lay in 4 or 5 weeks. In my opinion in Miracle's case I can't count on eggs for sure even if "she" is female. Maybe, but not for sure. I'll just be content to wonder and see if Miracle decides to reveal the secret.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Maybe if s/he's a boy they will even crow? Or maybe if a girl will do the "I wanna lay eggs" squat even if nothing results? I'm not sure but moar pictures! Doesn't matter if you got bigger Miracle, you're very pretty and I can't get enough of ya! ;D

Wow, I just stumbled on this thread and read through the whole thing... that took quite a while, but it's so intriguing! I love reading your story, Miracle! Keep up the good work, and do consider sending it into a publisher.

I'm subbed now, and will eagerly follow your story.

thank you for sharing!

I am sure that most will mirror your thoughts on the sex of your Miracle. It is a wonder that the bird has made it this far and has become a healthy and socially accepted individual with the rest of the flock.

Mena, you have done a wonderful job and I for one commend you. Like I have stated before: I have a very special rooster that I hatched out and literally nursed back to life when he became very ill last year.

He is running with whatever ladies he decides on for that day, happy, healthy and full of himself. I would not have it any other way, but I do keep the thought of loosing him constantly in the back of my mind.

He lets me pick him up and pet him (when the ladies are not watching) and he knows me.

He is a beautiful Red Jungle Fowl roo and really keeps the ladies in line and protects his hens of the day.
He is kind and very gentle with his hens and they love to be with him.

I was wondering the same thing. If a boy, you should've already gotten a crow...right?????

No, not necessarily. Who knows. Guineas don't crow like roosters. Chickens don't say "buck-wheat" like guinea hens do. I don't know what kind of voice or blend of voices Miracle will have. You would think s/he would have an adult bird voice by now and maybe what I'm hearing is Miracle's full grown sound. It is a quiet cheeping sound that is quite pleasant.

I would love to see a picture of your beautiful rooster. What is his name? Sounds like he is a very lucky guy to have you and be living the good life. It is funny how humbling it is for a rooster to be picked up so your guy loves you but doesn't want to loose status in front of the girls. They are so interesting to watch.
