Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed

Hello from Miracle,

The sun is shining today and I have been foraging all day. I'm going out further than ever away from the barn and the coop. Little green grasses are popping up all around and they taste so good!

Sweetie and all the other golden girls have been very busy too. They get in trouble a lot for getting in the flower beds but they are happy chickens. One of the golden girls (they are golden sex links) is named Chicken Chicken. I asked Mena one day why she named her that. She said that a little red haired girl came to visit one day when the golden girls were just baby chicks. The little girl asked "Which one is Chicken Chicken?". Well.......Mena looked in the box at the baby chicks and they all looked just alike except for one of them. One was lighter and fluffier than the others so Mena said "That one is Chicken Chicken." After that it was sad because none of the other golden girls had names. They decided to put colored bands on their legs so they could tell them apart. Now all the golden girls have names.

I have always had a name because I have always been different. None of the other birds on the farm look like me so I got my name right away. Some of the older guineas don't have names because they look the same. It is good to be different.

Goodbye for now

I really love getting your updates Miracle! Your writing is so simple and sweet.

Question for you... I didn't see mention of who your momma is? Do you or Mena know which lucky lady laid your Miracle egg?

Bad news. I went out to lock up the coop before dark and Miracle wasn't there. One of his buddies was missing also. Maybe they got chased out by the older birds and roosted in a tree or something. That is my hope. We looked everywhere and shinned lights up into the trees but couldn't find either of them. I'm so sad. There are fox, hawk, coyote, and raccoon all around us.

Our fave girl went missing the other day - and after searching 4 acres and down the street, she came running out of the bushes next to the coop an hour later. I hope your case ends similarly.

do you hear them at all? i know that has happened occasionally with ours, and they are usually in a tree... do they have treats that might get a response?
