That bird had a style of her own...I've never seen a chinea/guinken like that before.
I'm happy she was born into such a nice home that could share her tale. I agree with the others...turn this into a book.
I won't forget that face.

Hello from Miracle,

They hatched! The guinea eggs finally hatched! Half the eggs were under Chicken Chicken and the other half were under Little Bit. The plan was that when Little Bit hatched her part the chicken would take care of them for her. As Little Bit hatched the eggs under her the keets were taken to Chicken Chicken. Everything was working out just great until Little Bit finished hatching her eggs and noticed that all her babies were gone.

She went looking for them and found them in a cage in the coop with Chicken Chicken. She and all the other guineas were pacing back and forth in front of the cage calling to the keets and the keets were getting really confused. Which one was their real mommie? Mena walked into the coop and saw what was going on so she opened the cage. Little Bit went in to be with her babies. Chicken Chicken wasn't happy to share but she finally got over it.

Now they are getting along just fine. The keets love both of their mothers.

They like Little Bit the best for snuggling at night but they like Chicken Chicken best in the day time because she is really good at helping them find food and taking care of them. Nothing would dare to bother those keets with Chicken Chicken around.

I have been watching a young hawk flying around lately. He flies too close to my friends and too close to the coop. I try to watch out for everyone around here but it is hard to be everywhere at once. They are all pretty smart and have been finding safe places when they see the hawk. They can run into the horse stalls, the coop, under the trees and shrubery, and sometimes under the tractor.

One of the new hatchery chickens is a Lakenvelder. Do any of you have one of these at your house? This girlie is one CRAZY chickie! Her name is Velda and she is scared of everything and everybody. She screams and clucks very loud and flies around for no good reason at all. Now she is scared to lay her eggs in the nest boxes like everyone else so she lays them in the horse stall under a tarp beside the hay bales so noone can see her. I'm beginning to wonder if she can see me because she acts like she is seeing a ghost or something.

Miracle I really missed you but, I figured when you had a story to tell, BYCers would be the first to hear it. I love the fuss over the keets, no one asked Lil Bit how she would feel having her babies taken away. She proved her motherly instincts are strong. If "it takes a village, to raise a child," it certainly holds that it takes "two mamas to raise keets."

Miracle honey, I don't think Velda is frightened because she sees ghosts. You are a very warm and caring spirit .If Velda knew you she would feel safe and sound. I think being the only Lakenvelder is upsetting her. She needs a gal pal to hang with and to ease her transition. She doesn't have your wonderful adaptive skills but, maybe over time she can learn some.

Miracle you are such a lively spirit, I knew we would hear from you before Halloween. Thanks for entertaining us again - love ya babe.
