Mis Pollitos

Jalisco you have the same breed my husband MADE us get, Turkens. He says that in Mexico they are all like that.

I am partial to the CX for meat (freezer camped at 20 weeks) and Orpingtons and Ameraucanas for eggs (laying like champs at 24 weeks).

The naked neck ones (buche pelon), at 25 weeks still are not laying and too skinny to eat. My point exactly!

well, they are not all like that but they are very popular where I come from, and By they way Nava is My wife, I'm El Naked Neck
using her acount becouse I forgot my password, just too lazy to get another one, and she is always loged in so......
but that is My favorite breed, Yo Amo a las Buche palonas

So back to a question...if mis pollitos are about 3 weeks old...how many more weeks until we know something more?

I did get them from a rural town...outside of Guadalajara

I sure am going to be disappointed if they're the black sex link...they look exactly alike at this age, no???

Thank you for all the welcome. Me siento en casa

True that, I lived in Mexico Guanajuato to be more specific which is like 2 hours from Jalisco, for quite a while and we had a lot of naked necks in our house
they are beautiful.

Yeah by 4 to 6 weeks you should know for sure, as their combs will get redder if they are boys or they will stay pale and pink if they are girls.

what if they're the black sex link? What kind of changes should I be looking for?

If you lived close to Guad, como se dice, "food grade diatomaceous earth?" and where do I go looking for it???? I asked on another thread...hope I don't get in trouble for asking twice.

I forgot to mention that the seller said the hens would lay med sized eggs. Now I'm so concerned they are black link sex males that I may have to go back and get an answer from the seller.
It just seems like he was able to give all the information leading to believe it's a barred rock cross. If it's been crossed, it may be a black link sex...geez, how confusing.

At how many weeks do the female BR's lose some of the dark streak in front of their legs?

ya estoy loca!!! I'm driving myself crazy, not far to go, trying to find out what mis pollitos are...is there a chance they are Dominique??? I took pictures of the front of their legs...at what age do the barred rocks lose their leg color...meaning, if it's a hen, front leg is black, no?

DE- my husband just calls it "la arena para los pollitos". He did not use it in Mexico. I never saw it in Panama which is where I am from.

Sexing will take a while but not too long, three weeks, four max. There's no lose though, if they are males, you can eat them or sell them for food. If they are females you will have eggs. It should be pretty easy to aquire some hens though. Ask the butcher in the mercado. If you have any trustable house staff or freinds have them eithe r go for you or with you or you will get majorly ripped off if you are not local.

That's just how it is. You have to be local and bargain like you are buying a diamond ring...otherwise you lose. I was engaged to an American man the last time I was in Mexico for an extended period and I would not let him go with me to buy anything. If he did go, he had to be far away until I had boughteverything.

I am texting my husband your pictures to see if he can identify them. It looks beautiful where you are, I love Guadalajara and Cuernavaca, also San Miguel Regla. I'll let you know what my husband says.

Oh, do not buy what they usually use to dust chickend is you want organic, it's Sevin dust.
