I have an old hen-13 years-that has sour crop. I feel awful because she has had it for days and I just thought she was naturally on her way our with the colder Fall temps and such.

Anyway, I researched threads here, and gave her 1/4tsp of organic unfiltered cider vinegar. Now it says to give her only ACV water for next 12 hours. Do I just put it in her cage, or force it to her?

She did puke up a bunch of goo with grass and such-like a ton actually. She still has a bit of a puffy feeling, but nothing like it was.

Will the ACV help boost her energy? She is already old and thin, and I'm not sure she can make it through-I sure hope so.

Mix the ACV with the water. Withhold all other feeds and be sure she can't eat her bedding.

During the next 12 hours watch and see if she is drinking. Gently massage her crop.

The ACV will inhibit the growth of the bacteria/yeast/fungus that has begun to grow in her crop with the impacted materials.

After 12 hours you should be able to smell a difference. She shouldn't smell sour.

Okie dokie-she looks a bit better now. I don't think she's drinking, but she looks a bit more alive. When I did that first bit of ACV with some water in a syringe, I could hear all sorts of noises in her crop as it settled in there. Guess it was doing it's job. Thanks!
