Miss_Jayne, pass me a bagel!(update pg 2 easier recipe!)

i didn't do anything special, i just baked them at the required temp. you could put them to the broiler for just a few seconds.

so glad the kids enjoyed them!!!

Miss Prissy's sourdough also makes excellent bagels.

1 1/2 c. Miss P's sourdough starter
2 c. flour
1 very large egg
2 tsp. oil
1/2 tsp salt
(other stuff: I used oatmeal for crunchy whole grain, but whatever flavors you like)

Boil & bake as per Miss Jayne's recipe. So good!

Oh man, look at all those bagels...

I can't come to the "recipes" section without seeing 10 or 12 things I want to try making. YUM!!

Thank goodness I'm eating a piece of homemade bread as I read this! I've made bagels before with limited success. I'm going to have to try again.
I'm not sure I understand what instant yeast is. Is it available at the grocery store?
Off to google anyway!
Okay, I think I answered my own question. One site I found says it is teh same as bread machine yeast which I buy by the jar full.
Did bread and biscuits tonight. Bagels will have to wait until Tuesday. (Cub Scouts tomorrow)

They look so puffy and pretty when you boil them! Next time I'll try broiling them to make them glossier and browner.
