Missed the Easter hatchalong, anyone else setting 4/10?

1. None of the eggs are hatching. But, they are still alive (maybe not all, but there are some definite)

2. The evil incubator of doom, that I thought that I could maybe force into being a hatcher, is NOT holding steady temps. So, all of my staggered hatch eggs are in the SAME incubator, with the SAME humidity. (a good wonderful, glorious incubator that actually holds steady temps etc.)

I am hoping that the eggs will hatch out anyway, maybe get shrink wrapped, I can then wrap in paper towel and help them finish.... but dunno

Sorry that things are not going well for you Alaskan. I hope you have chicks hatching over night!

I have four chicks out as of this evening. I saw two more pips earlier but then the chicks kicked the eggs around and I can't see the pips anymore. They are still there...I just can't see them. Out of a dozen eggs that are supposed to be hatching today and tomorrow I have four hatched out and two that I suspected were quitters, even though I put them in the hatcher. That means a possibility of 6 more chicks left to hatch out. Who knows, maybe I'll have more by morning?

Yeah! One hatched overnight! I am so happy that I got at least one! We shall see if any more make it.

Oh, even with the incubator still at 34% humidity, he hatched out perfectly.

 it turns out that I had entered the hatch day incorrectly.

My Dominiques are supposed to hatch TODAY, not yesterday, and the leghorns TOMORROW, not today.

So..... The one that hatched last night is early, not late, and there is a very good chance that more will hatch later.

:D

Good news!

Many peeps in the #1 bator here, and one bantam hatched in the #2 incubator due to hatch tomorrow.

I am glad yours are doing well!

Out of my Dominique eggs 13 plus two repaired that were cracked.....

I have one very healthy and totally hatched/dried etc. also one that has internally pipped, but isn't totally ready to pip and zip (since my humidity was low...I checked) but that one looks really good, good chance it will be a successful hatch by tomorrow. Then, there is one more egg that looks to be a day behind the others for some unknown reason. I didn't even peek, since it is obviously alive and obviously not quite ready. All of the rest........ -sigh- there are three others still in the incubator from that group, but I do NOT think they will hatch. So, I will get two, maybe three out of 13 or 15(if you want to count the cracked ones). Which is horrid, but also understandable.... Those eggs were so beat up when they arrived! I am hoping that one of the ones that hatch is the exact rooster that I had dreamed of getting from this breeder.

Luckily, the eggs due to hatch tomorrow showed up in better shape and have been doing much better during the entire incubation process..AND I started out with more of them.... 36 rose comb leghorn eggs! About half dark brown and half white, but all rose comb from a great breeder. I no longer have 36 leghorn eggs in there of course............. But at least it looks better!

A 'bator full of newly hatched chicks and a soccer game....what more can a person want? (I was a die-hard soccer mom when my kids were younger.

Gotta love those first peepings. :) I've been trying to listen for the peeps from my eggs that are rocking, but I can't hear anything over the chicks that hatched last week.

Up to 7 chicks and two more pipped eggs...including one that I marked as a possibly quitter! Goes to show you we can't tell everything by candling! Well, at least with my dark eggs I can't, lol. Can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

Our hatch is still slowly winding down. Last night we came home to 18 chicks hatched and one easter egger that was still trying but not making progress. I went ahead and assisted that one and s/he is now doing great. Unfortunately, one of the 19 that we had last night had an opening in the abdominal wall through which intestines were sticking out and had lost a lot of blood, so we culled immediately and one of the 18 that seemed to be doing fine last night was dead when we checked in on them this morning. But the rest are all dried out and fluffy and cute as can be. There were 4 eggs that had pipped (one had even zipped...it was that first one to pip when we went into lockdown) but died in the shell. And 14 more eggs that we left alone. Three had pipped by tonight. DH tried to assist one of them, not realizing that it didn't need help, so we covered it with a paper towel and are hoping for the best. Since today was supposed to be hatch day, we'll leave them until the end of the day Saturday before investigating whether or not they're still alive.

And yesterday we discovered that we have a broody hen! So now the hunt is on for some barred rock, cuckoo marans, or barred easter egger eggs to stick under her.
