Missing my quail

I had coturnix at my old house where I kept them in a garage that was climate controlled. At the new smaller place, I would not have been able to put AC in the garage due to there being no way to vent it. So it was far too hot for them, and I gave them to a friend who had a better situation for them.

I really miss having quail though, and our climate is not well suited to keeping them outside in the summer. I am looking at button quail that maybe could stay in the house.

Would you show me your indoor button quail situations? How well can you manage the smell indoors, and do they make the same sounds as the coturnix hens? I miss the little cooing and chortling noises of my little hens.

Thanks!

I've kept a pair of buttons in a 50 gallon tote with the top cut out and replaced with hardware cloth.

Buttons make different sounds than coturnix, but I find them equally charming. One pair in a 50 gallon tub doesn't smell much and only needs to be cleaned once a week or so.

I have this set up now for my jumbos. Planning on upgrading their cage to a much larger size as I have 2 baby quail that will join them in a few months.

It didn't stay this clean for long lol. I have a wire floor with a sliding thing underneath it for easy cleaning of poop. The top layer is a solid sliding drawer to give them a break from the wire if they want. This cage was $100 in Australian dollars, and I'm getting one 3x the size for $300. Mine are good with ramps, but most Quail aren't.
