Hey all! I'm in the Ozarks as well... near Mountain Grove.

I have 27 4 month old hens, 2 roosters, and 5 ducks

Ozark hen... you may have buff orpingtons that are related to mine! I got my birds from Cackle as well!!!

good one. Where abouts are you located? Have you posted pictures of your flock? We are very big on photos here at BYC.
 
I do not have pictures of them yet. We are near Mountain Grove, but closer to Cabool.

That's neat that she's in Cabool! I'm new here.. so I may not know her.. but I bet she knows a friend of mine who knows EVERYONE in town! LOL!! ^_^

Ummm... I'm a bit sad tonight... my chicken's were mass murdered by something, and it wasn't even dark yet. It was right before we lock them up...

They got my big Peking duck, and I only have 4 chickens found/2 ducks, alive but wounded, and 11 chicken bodies found dead. The rest are missing.

I posted about it in emergencies... I need help with caring for the wounded.

I will call the vet in the morrow as well.

Any help is appreciated...

oh nooo i'm so sorry you lost your chicks I hope you find out who or what did this to them

I have just put mine outside 2 days ago i hope nothing happens to them they are 2 months old now I do have them in a chain link fence but no top on it yet i will have to do that today looks like
 
Cricket, I am so sorry about your chickens! That is so awful! Yes, my daughter probably knows your friend as my DD works there in town. I just can't get over your poor chickens! Again, so sorry.
 
We think the dog did it... we found all of the bodies except 3, and they were just mauled up.. not eatened.

1 was dug half way into the ground... like he does with his dog food. I'm so upset.

We found 1 more alive, and 1 didn't make it in this morning.

My friend works in town too.. she works in the little drug store as the manager. Debbie is her name...

so sorry, Cricket, I thought it was the dog when you posted it in "emergencies". I didn't really want to upset you more by suggesting it was one of your pets but even my own little dogs think it is fun to play chase with the chickens!

This will happen again as the dog can't help it and if he gets loose again without you being there.......
I am trying to find an "outside" dog that will be good with chickens myself right now.

We found all but 1 today. There is a buff still missing. BUT a buff did show up as well!!!! So total we have,

2 roosters

5 hens (2 buffs, 3 RI) *hoping the wounded buff will make it)

4 ducks

That's pretty good I guess.. we should still get eggs I think ^_^
