I went to treat my silkies eye this morning and saw what I thought was "dirt" on her head and neck.....she's COVERED in mites...will this poultry dust treat it? I just cleaned their coop out a week or so ago and dusted it as well.

I would get some Permethrin 10 and dilute it per the label directions then soak a rag and very carefully dab her head to keep the diluted solution from dripping into her eyes.
Then put the diluted solution into a spray bottle and spray her under each wing, under her vent, on her chest and on her upper back under the hackle feathers making sure the spray reaches her skin in all locations. Spray all the chickens this way.
You should clean out the coop again and spray it as the dust will have a hard time getting into the cracks where the mites hide during the day. Spray all surfaces and let it dry then rebed.
Then repeat everything in 7 days and again in 14 days. That's a pretty bad infestation.

Ok thank you! Yea I literally handle her every single day and gave no idea how I missed this.😖 Some days I feel like I should just give up chickens.

Everyone has been sprayed with the permethrin solution. I sprayed down the coop as well. I won't have help to completely clean it out until Sunday. Do I need to retreat my birds in a week or so? Or is it a one time treatment? I'm exhausted to say the least🥱

You guys....I think I'm going to cry. I just took a flea comb and combed all of these out of her neck and crest...😭 I resprayed her and soaked the poor thing. Alot of them I combed out were dead but I found new "colonies" I put her in a dog crate in my garage since she's so bad.

I sprayed down my bathroom where I had her and sprayed my arms because they were crawling on me.

Someone one please help, I've sprayed her down twice and dipped her this morning and she still has mites crawling.😣 It looks like about 80% of the mites are dead but some are still alive. I dipped her at 9 this morning. I used the ratio of 200ml to 1 gal of water that I found on a thread here. Shouldn't they all the dead by now???

If the mites don't kill her first I'm afraid I'm going to overdose her. She's been through so much I'm afraid to treat her again. She's not very active. Someone please help me, I'm at the end of my rope here.😭 I don't know what else to do.

What permethrin product are you using?
Post a pic of the label and/or link to product.
There should be dilution ratios on the bottle.

I use ......
Permethrin spray(Gordons 10)
At 10 mls (two teaspoons) per 1/2 gallon(2qts) of water in the sprayer
At 5 mls (one teaspoons) per 1/4 gallon(1qts) of water in the sprayer

I'm using Gordon's. For the dip I used 50mls per 1/4 gallon of water.

Several hours ago I gave her a bath in dawn dish soap as well to help smother the mites, I washed her until I didn't see anymore mites.

I just checked her over and no mites!!!!!👏👏👏👏

We will be treating all the other birds and cleaning/burning/spraying the coop tomorrow.
