You did not use enough permethrin.
You need to use more and re treat.

8 oz in 12.5 gallons = .64 ounces per gallon

which would mean you need .34 OUNCES per half gallon of water.

It's 10 mls (two teaspoons!) per half gallon of water. You can add a little bit more, but half strength promotes resistance.

What brand name is your permethrin bottle?

I've found that with the Gordon's concentrate, once mixed, in a plastic container, it weakens after a few days, definitely after 8 or 10 days. Mix fresh!

I use permethrin spray and spray everything inside the coops. I spray the ceiling, walls, floors, roosts (on and under them), nest boxes inside and out every crack and crevice where mites can hide. You have to repeat spraying because it doesn't kill the eggs so when they hatch you will have more mites. I spray weekly for now as not long ago I had mites for the very first time. I haven't seen any lately but I keep spraying. I should have sprayed yesterday but we are having rain and more rain so it doesn't dry well with the humidity 100%.

Bought, mixed, used all in the same day. No other hens have mites that I can see, just my separated Sizzle and they all seem to be on her head. So if the spray didn’t work, nor did the powder, what else can I try?

Did you spray her head?
Could it be that you have sprayed the rest of her body and they mites are escaping to her head.

Give it time. It will work. Retreat.

You must retreat because it doesn't kill the eggs only the mites and if there are mite eggs they will hatch out and you will have to spray again anyways. It takes multiple treatments. On the bottle I believe it tells how often to spray. I have gone in after the birds are roosting and giving them a spray but I have a lot of birds.
