I too prefer using a flea/tick shampoo. I feel it gets the bugs off the birds more rapidly (including some of the eggs), and will also get any feather mites that the ivermectin doesn't. I prefer Sergeant's Gold as it will also kill the eggs. If you use a product that doesn;t kill the eggs, you need to retreat in about a week, and to be really thorough, again in another week. I do use flea/tick spray at times, but I prefer to shampoo. After the bath I treat with ivermectin pour-on before the feathers are completely dry--makes it easier to get the product onto the skin, only.
