I was cleaning out the nest box after a broken egg and saw a few Itty bitty crawling bugs...how do I know they are mites and not "just" a bug?
The chickens don't seem to be bothered and I checked one of my hens around her neck and comb...her skin was clean as a whistle.
I am posting a picture...it is the best I could do.

that's not a mite. They are barely visible with the naked eye, they are so small. Looks like a beetle or ant to me, but the image is blurry.

I did read that mites have 8 legs and this has 6...it is very small, had to zoom in and crop picture...Just noticed on my wood retaining wall to our garden, there are hundreds crawling around..
What I read it said check perches and chickens butts at night for mite activity...didnt see anything and I learned chickens dont like their butts looked at!
😅🤣😂🤣😅

Mites are teeny tiny and round not long with 8 legs, yes.

Those bugs you have will just make good snacking for your chickens!!

Lol at fluffy butt examinations! Someone has to do it!
