Mites

Other alternatives (not sure what is available for Canada) - Elector PSP (Spinosad), elemental sulfur powder. Elector isn't cheap but supposedly works very well, sulfur is probably more available and does not have risk of pesticide resistance, but works slower.
Hi would you mind sharing how to treat with sulfer? Do you use it on the coop or bird?
Thanks

Hi
Same problem and tried DE, no luck. Ordered food grade sulfur off Amazon. The mites were gone in four days. Wish you lived closer I'd give you some. I had to get 10lb which is more the I could ever use.
My chickens have mites too😒. How do you treat with sulfer?
Thanks!

You can get pyrethrin in Canada at Canadian Tire... it works much like permethrin but biodegrades faster So you may have to apply it a few times. It’s derived from the chrysanthemum flower. It can be dangerous for cats and fish, but safe for humans and other mammals (although you shouldn’t breathe it in). It worked for me for mites on my birds.

What can I use to get rid of mites in coop and chicken while waiting for the permethrin I ordered on-line? Delivery date is sept 15 (takes 4wks for usps to deliver in Canada)

I've been power washing the coop every 5days for about 4wks now. I used water, cooking oil and soap to spray the coop and dust the chickens with DE including the nesting, roost and run. I also sprayed the coop with pest control spray that I found in the store but there is only .025% permethrin on it.

I will be cleaning the coop again tomorrow but I will be using hot/boiling water. I read in one of the articles....hopefully it will kill the mites and mite eggs.

There is another article about malathion being used to spray the coop. I might do that too if the hot water doesn't work. I have lots of malathion in my barn. We use it to spray the hedges for spider mites. Good thing I bought a lot before Canada have decided to control using this chemical. Until I get the permethrin, I will be trying everything to get rid of the pests maybe not all but at least a few. I just couldn't wait....if this persist I will burn the coop but then what do I do with the chickens?

I also sprayed the coop with pest control spray that I found in the store but there is only .025% permethrin on it.

0.25% or 0.025%? The first is a correct dilution of permethrin for most routine treatment, if it's the latter, it's so weak that's probably not worth using at all.

I don't know if any of the other treatments you mentioned work, so guess you have to go with the instructions you see in any articles you've been reading, and hope that something gives you good results.
