Mites?

My rooster has previously been VERY healthy. We got his blood analyzed and it came back with a calcium deficiency. We are supplementing him twice a day with meds from the vet. However, he’s still VERY lethargic. His comb, face and wattle turn almost completely white. He’s lost muscle and meat all over. He’s all feathers so it’s hard to notice he’s lost weight but it’s almost 3-4 pounds in two months now. We have a follow up with the vet on the 6th. However, I can’t get a clear pic but does this look like external parasites. Did not find any actual bugs moving about and his poop is normal. I’m just worried about my little baby. I found this spot where the feather shaft has a yellow buildup. Most of his others don’t have this. Vent is clean.

Please stick with what the vet has suggested as treatment. The follow up is just 2 days away.

DE does not treat an active infestation it MIGHT help keep bugs away but is also a very fine powder that is easily airborne and very irritating to the lungs of many animals....humans included.

Your roo is already struggling so adding irritated lungs from a powder can throw the vet off the track of what is really ailing him.

Agreed. I would bring up your questions with your vet on the 6th.

DE is worthless and only helps irritate birds' already delicate airways. I have videos of mites doing the backstroke, living their best life in DE.

Worms do not cause build up on feathers.

The pics are a bit too blurry to see much, but it appears to be a build up of skin cells and oil. Not mites.

Nope. Bad information yet again. You need to stop these posts.
DE does not help mites in most cases and it damages chicken’s delicate airways.
Most Mites can survive just fine in pure DE.
If you want mites to be cured you need actual mite treatment, like Ivermectin Pour-on, for example.
