Chapter 19...4/8

The thing paced in front of Alastair, every movement was sly. The lighting in the forest was harsh on the things appearance. Deep lines encircled the eyes, making his face look haggard and his body looked like a bristling shadow cowering in front of Alastair, who at the moment looked mightier than ever. I doubt that this 'thing' has good intentions. But than again, perhaps he's a good animal, a kind one. Why did he attack me then?
"Why did you attack me?" Alastair snorted.
"The Ores are watching with large eyes, that's why. They also like horse meat, which is one of the reasons you won't get out of this forest alive." Deep in his throat a chilling chuckle erupted.
"Why do you want to help us?" Alastair warily eyed the things brawny mouth, which he was sure would love a horse steak.
"I have past grievances witht those hellish creatures. I'm willing to take the chance to trick them out of horse meat, a sort of revenge you might say."
"Well then, what's your plan?" Alastair was wary.
"I have to act like I'm taking you to their meeting spot when really, I'm helping you."
"Won't they hear you saying this?"
"They might have large eyes, but that doesn't mean they can hear," He cocked his beefy head at Alastair.
"Very well then," Alastair sighed, his common sense was telling him not to have any dealings with this creature. "Where do we go with you?"
"To the left, just keep sight of my tail." He paused and indicated Alastair to look back at his herd.
Alastair gasped! There, surrounding his herd had to be at least one hundred wolf like creatures surrounding his mares! He hadn't even heard them coming! They were silent, not even a whisper had he heard.
"Now," The things' eyes gleamed with mischief. "Come with me."
Alastair realized too late of his mistake. Why didn't I kill the brute when I had the chance? This is the fate of my herd, I wonder if Mitty and Agnes are alive. Even if they were, I'm sure they hate me now. I never even said goodbye....now, I never will. This saddened Alastair, he felt a deep welling in his chest, then his throat started aching. This will never do! Me, the Great Alastair....crying? No! I haven't cried for years, why should I now? My sire, and his sire before him came from a long line of war horses, who were brave...no, they were evil cowards, only brave when thjey had numbers surrounding them. Yet, they faced death unflinchingly when they knew it was inevitable, and here I am crying about it? Unthinkable. He reasoned with himself for several minutes, fighting the urge to cry, instead his eyes welled till he couldn't see and he started tripping, until finally, unable to keep his burning eyes open, tears slid down his face. Suddenly he had a new urge to weep and make throat noises, but he simply had a coughing fit instead.
The thing, a little puzzled at all the coughing behind him looked back and saw the stallion in great distress, he almost burst out laughing. Quite a sight it was, a large stallion arching his neck and coughing with tears streaming out of his blinking eyes!
"Bless my anchovies!" The thing was laughing fit to kill "Is that the great stallion crying?" All the other big, silent wolf-things started roaring with laughter once the funny sight was to be seen. Alastair blushed and screamed in rage, rearing.
"I was not crying!!" He had a growing hatred in him, But now is not the time to unleash it. He decided.
"You were too crying!" The thing was on the ground now, kicking it's paws up in the air and wiggling his back, laughing all over himself! Suddenly, all laughter stopped and the thing froze as if paralyzed. Then flipped onto it's feet in less than a second and stood to attention. Alastair sensed a new presence that he couldn't see. He could hear soft steps coming closer, his heart thudded in his chest. They were coming closer and closer, finally, straining his eyes he could see the some curves of something pitch black. Alastair suddenly knew, he saw through it all.
He turned his head to check on his mares.... they weren't there, but the wolves were!
Alastairs' eyes were terrible when he met the eyes of the thing. "You aren't going to take my herd out of this forest, are you?"
The things' lips twisted into a wily smile, revealing sharp yellow teeth. "I lied."
