Mitty - The horse story

Chapter 45

I galloped at full speed into the forest, my humors changing as fast as my rapid pace. First, I felt burning anger at Pearl, I wanted to kill her; which was almost unthinkable with her being the lead mare and all. After feeling anger, it would seem to melt with each passing stride into urgency - urgency to get into cover.
That's when the contractions started. The most painful thing I've ever experienced, I knew it would probably go on for another few hours, so I wanted to immediately find a place to lie down. But my vision was blurring, and my senses were leaving me slowly. All my sanity was dissipating into the utter urge for survival; so I wasn't thinking rationally. I desperately scanned the area as I thundered past, where would a safe place be? A place where nothing could find me in my weakest and most vulnerable hour? I'd be a sitting duck for a predator large enough to take me down, somewhere safe was absolutely necessary! About ten minutes of galloping drained the little energy I had, I slipped down to a canter, then a racy trot. But never did I let myself walk, not even once. Mere instinct drove me on, almost unnaturally.
The forest, I noticed, had a lot of trees; but unfortunately for me, not much of anywhere to deliver a foal. I was getting agitated and nervous, lather was beginning to gather at my flank, and the corners of my mouth were flecked with foam. I have to get somewhere, anywhere! No bushes, no low trees, no ground cover of any kind, NOTHING! A b-bear could get me, or a cougar, or worse, a timber wolf would find me and I'd be slaughtered on sight! Wagh! If I'm slaughtered on sight, then so will my foal! Mitty would be dead, Agnes will have lost a friend, I'd never face Lune again, my foal would never have a chance to grow up…and even worse, where would I go if I died?
Those terrible thoughts raced through my mind as I trotted (at a devilish pace, mind you) through the stately trees.
I knew I couldn't last much longer before I absolutely had to lie down; I frantically glanced around, feeling faint. It was then I saw it! I beautiful sight, so calm and peaceful, a relieving sight that made me calmer as I approached it. A tall, soft patch of grass about ten feet wide with a tree or two, covered a little with some bushes. Perfect!
I eagerly trotted over to the spot, sighing deeply with content as I heaved myself to my knees, and lie down. Waiting, ready, and knowing that whatever happened, I would be a mother.

How long do we have to wait for the next chapter? I am not subscribed to the thread but I have had it bookmarked for a while and check daily for updates. Patiently waiting for the next chapter.

This story must not be too important anymore. If I wasn't curious about the ending I'd go ahead and take it off my favorites list on my computer and just forget about it. I think I need to find some new stories to read. I'm sure there is someone out there that actually writes on thier story on a regular basis.

Hold yer horses there. I'm writing it, but not posting it; plus my life has been pretty dang hectic. I didn't know anybody really read my story anymore, nice to know they do. ;) I will finish the next chapter right now.
