Nope, there is a lot more.

Chapter 5

It felt so good to run! We ran off the road and into some woods on the other side. As we entered the pines I noticed that our hooves made almost no noise on the ground. What are we standing on? I knickered to Agnes and the others (whom I didn't know) and they examined the ground too. None of us knew what all the things were. I pawed removing layer after layer, before long it smelled putrid and moist. So we shrugged, flicked our tails and walked away.
"Come on," a palomino mare with high stockings and a blaze on her face was speaking. "Don't be so slow, you'd think being out of a cage for the first time you would be faster."
I approached her "Hello, I'm Mitty, could we talk as we walk?"
"If you want too." She looked a little annoyed.
"Were you one of the horses in the building?" I inquired.
"Of course, you didn't see me anywhere else." She snorted, her finely dished face was beautiful in the moonlight.
I noticed that she looked finer bred then the rest of us walking. Her bones seemed finely crafted, but strong. Her coat was healthy. Ours were dull with malnutrition. She walked with a spring in her step, the rest of us were dragging ours.
"You didn't come from a Premarin factory did you?" I was getting suspicious.
"Well..no," She hesitated. "Not really...it was a mistake. But I think the girl you need to interview for your 'so-smart' detective work is Hazel." She was smirking.
I was annoyed at her thinking I was trying to pry, I wasn't. But Hazel escaped too? I hadn't had a chance to really look at the other horses that escaped with us. "Hazel's here? She escaped?"
"Oh yes she did, barely made it over the fence though. Leave me alone now please." She side stepped away from me and was whispering with another horse.
I glared after herWhatever, if she wants to be that way. Where's Agnes? I haven't had a chance to talk to her
My eyes soon caught sight of her sorrel self.
"Hey Agnes! Come over here!" She came promptly; looking mad.
"What do you want?"
"Agnes, I haven't had a chance to talk to you. Are you alright? Did the men hurt you?"
"No." She snapped.
"Your mad at me." I said flatly.
"Am not!"
"Yes you are!"
"Am not!" Her head shot out towards my shoulder, then ouch! She bit me really hard.
"Ouch! Agnes you ninny. Tell me what's wrong?"
She was silent.
"C'mon, we've been friends since we were an hour old." I pressed.
"Why were you talking to that palomino freak?"
Now this was not like Agnes! She was usually so sweet and laid back.
"I just wanted to know about her...she seemed....different."
"She is different. Do you know what she used to be? A dressage horse! Do you know what I'd give to be a dressage horse?"
"A dressage horse?!" I gasped, I had only heard rumors about trained horses. Where they true? A myth maybe? "Why was she at a slaughter house?"
"Don't ask me, but she said something nasty about my being form a premarin facility."
"Oh Agnes I'm sorry. What did she say?"
"I'm not going to repeat it. I hate her! How am I ever going to travel with a jerk?!"

Chapter 6

From then on the going was rough. 1) Agnes was mumbling and glaring at the 'dressage' mare and 2) The terrain was getting rockier. It seemed that we were heading up into some mountains.
That also gave me time to meet the new members and establish a pecking order.
There was one other colt with us; he was dark bay and very sarcastic. Name: Thaddeus. Trying to be nice to him was impossible, so I ignored him best I could.
Two more filly's, a bay and a black.
Then, as you know the palomino 'dressage' mare; named Deloras.
Last but not least, Hazel. A shy buckskin mare that wanted to be alone. An outsider.

The rocky landscape was unmerciful to our unshod feet. I tripped innumerable times, I was panting, my body was not used to vigorous movement. I heard quick foot falls behind me, I saw Deloras trying to pass me up and be ahead so she could choose the way. I knew me and her would have a show down soon, but not before me and the colt! After an hour or so we came to a fork in the rocky goat path. The right side went down, and the left side went up. I promptly decided going down would be best.
Thaddeus snorted, "You dapple grey."
"Me?" I turned around, no one had ever refered to me as 'dapple grey'.
"Yeah, you. Were going this way," He nodded his head at the path going up.
"I'm sure that way will lead up the moutain. We want to go around the mountains where the valley grass is and hopefully some fresh water."
"No, we need to see the lay of the land first." He took a threatening step towards me, "We go this way!" He nudged me roughly toward the left side of the fork. I stood my ground stubbornly.
"I'm going around the mountains! Don't you tell me where to go." I whinnied!
"You impertinent filly! Never talk to a man like that." He fairly spat out.
"I can if I want too."
"You better obey me! Or I'll - I'll -" He was loosing his temper with me.
"Make me."
A fury I had never seen passed over his eyes, then he lunged at me with raking teeth! I jumped out of the way just in time and he went sliding past me! I whinnied with excitement as he wheeled and cantered for me, I side stepped and he pawed the rocks with anger, then so quick I couldn't get out of the way he rammed into me! I got catapulted a couple feet and landed with a thud! I screamed with rage and with my forelegs hammered his neck, he just laughed and kicked me so hard I cried.
I got up, defeated for the first time. Agnes ran over to me - Hazel hung behind. I hated Thaddeus so much I felt it like a burning rock inside me that would last for days.
I muttered in contempt and glowered at him as I heaved my bloody body up and followed him, hanging my head. Just then Deloras snickered at me, that was all I could take! I kicked at her shoulders with my hind legs; and meeting their mark she screamed in pain and ran to Thaddeus. He paid no heed and kept walking up the steep mountain path.
I was so mad I felt like I was breathing fire. Thaddeus didn't care about us mares, he was no stallion! Only a doggoned colt. I'll make him pay....I will.
After several hours of walking up the rocky mountain path I was beat. Hunger and thirst were taking it's toll on my body. It felt like hunger was eating me inside out. I could only nibble on some crabgrass which tasted bitter, but it was some sort of food. Agnes was stumbling blindly, "Shouldn't we get some sleep?" she muttered. It was night when we had left the slaughter site, now the eastern sky was lightening, turning into amethyst purple, then pink and orange then it kept on getting lighter till it sang a pretty blue with fluffy white clouds.
We were up on the range of mountains; high. The clear mountain air seemed to make us snap up a bit, but when the sun came out we just got hotter. I peered down the sides of the rocks and precipices, green grass! I glared at Thaddeus, We really should've went around the mountains, what a dunce!
"We really should have went the other way, Thaddeus. In fact, you were pretty dumb to go up! Of all places." I gave him a piercing look.
"Why thank you." He said sarcastically.
"Don't you have eyes? There is grass and water down there! If we went my way we would've been down there right now, not up here on this desert of rocks! On the side of a stupid mountain that were going to starve to death on! All because of some little boy that didn't know his way! A mare was smarter than you!" As I was whinnying my voice was getting louder with each word, and I ended this sentence of yelling with kicking a rock and stamping.
Thaddeus was looking angrier till I thought he would literally explode with it! "How dare you yell at me like that? Who do you think you are? MY MOTHER? No! Those days are over for me! I'm incharge, not you so SHUT YOUR TRAP!" He ended this sentence with a roar "NEEEEIIIIGGHHHHHHH!" And came down on his forelegs with such force that we heard a rumbling. It sounded like a high whine then eventually deepened to a deafening scream! It sounded like the very earth was splitting. Then OUCH! A couple pebbles bounced on my head then fell to the ground. I looked up and what met my eyes above us horrified me!
