Chapter 36
For the rest of that miserable night I wept till my tear ducts went dry, laying next to Agnes, hearing her mumble and toss. She was sick, and that made me increasingly worried. I finally heaved myself up, there was no use to bother Agnes if she was sleeping, though somewhat deliriously.
Some mares were grazing in the dark, I was thirsty though not hungry, "Grace?" I called through the darkness.
"Mitty? Yes?" She approached slowly, as if she was exhausted.
"Is there a stream or some sort of river close by?"
"Uh, yeah."
"Where?" I inquired.
"If you go past those two trees and go down in that ravine there is a fast running stream. But be careful and watch your back. There could be some wolves still hanging around."
"Sure..." Wolves? Dang, Grace; might as well just send me down there with only three legs. I wasn't going to risk my hide for a drink of water!
I stalked away to a decent spot of grass a little mad at everyone and everything because I was tired. I noticed purple streaks adorning the black sky - dawn would be here soon. Dew started gathering in the chilly dawn; which nearly made my poor fetlocks freeze. I breathed deeply, soaking in the beauty of a misty morn.
Have to go to bed or I'll be grounded
