To my surprise I just witnesses my Chinese painted quail mate with a Japanese hen twice, I understand despite the size difference they're closely related species, it is possible that they could produce a mix?

Were there's a way there's a will. I'd say maybe. You could hatch the eggs and find out.

I'm definitely going to try, I'd love to see a male jumbo Chinese painted quail.

He's been mating more with them now he got the hang of it

Even if they're fertile, there's a slim chance of survival.

He's been mating more with them now he got the hang of it

If you do end up hatching eggs and get quickens to like to see the results.
