I bought 16 week old "pullets" from a lady who's husband let all the hens and rooster have a party for 3 months. She came back to 30 plus chicks. They are possibly crosses of red shaver/leghorn/light Sussex. She said "if any turn out to be roosters bring them back". I've tried to sex them by looking at redness of wattle/comb, tail and saddle feathers. 3 have very red comb and wattle. I'm confused about the tail feathers as 2 look pointy but one I'm not sure of? At that age should the faces and combs be very red already for pullets and cockerels?

I would think at 16 weeks it should be possible to distinguish pullets from cockerels. Post pictures of them and many here can help you with that. I am just laughing gently to myself about how the chickens had a PARTY FOR 3 MONTHS.

PS. Nice that the seller will take the cockerels back and exchange.!!!

Thanks! So it's these 4. Pretty sure the white and grey tall one with darker tail is a roo as is the all white one. Also pretty sure the blue/grey one is a hen. Confused as to the brown one?? Neck feathers are pointy but tail seems rounded but the comb is very red....what do you think?? Also the white one and the grey and white were chest-butting...?
