I have 14 chicks right now from 3 broody hatchers... All of the chicks were fathered by either a blue jersey giant/orp (this guy: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/what-is-my-giant-guy.1176140/), or a silver laced Wyandotte roo, and one of many types of moms (Silv laced polish/lav orp/Silv laced Wyn/EE/brahma/many others). Among the 14, two chicks have mini-crests. Not like the pure Polish puffball that turns into a full Polish mohawk--- but more of a 50s/60s "wrong side of the tracks kid" slight mohawk.

Does this mean they could be part polish? Or do other random hybrids have funky chick heads? Heads up that you don't get the anticipated results when googling "chicks with Mohawks", fyi :)

Thanks for any help!

Thanks! So you think that goofy mohawk is a crest? It's so tiny compared to the usual Polish puffball. Would these chicks grow to have partial crests I wonder?

Yes they will have wild hairdos. I like the crazy look the Polish mixes get. The chicks should grow partial crests.
The poof on the polish is a very full crest so that means Polish are crested chickens.
