I guess I have two questions.

When can my chicks switch to the regular layer pellets,

And if this is after when I want to mix them, how do I manage feeding them differently?

Chicks should not be fed Layer Pellets until a short time before they are going to lay. If you have a mixed flock you may consider foods that accommodate all life stages such as Flock Raiser

Feed everyone a Starter/Grower and offer Oyster Shell in a separate container.

I just posted a similar question, I see now it maybe best to go with giving them all starter, Then when the young ones are laying switch them all to layer feed? The older hens always have oyster shell. It will be ok taking them from 16% layer pellets to 21% protein starter crumble? I hope they transition ok, they hated going from mash to pellets.
