Mixing Quail with Another Breed

My Silkie is named Snuggle Bug. He's a purebred Chinese Silkie, and if you were wondering why his earlobes aren't a pretty blue. Our Phoenix decided to beat up on him, and bit up his earlobes, and they changed from bright Periwinkle to red with periwinkle spots.
 
The offspring will be sterile, but the actual cross of a chicken and quail is not impossible. It has been done "for decades".

This is from a restricted source, so I should not post the actual copy of the article, but these folks in the 1970's did it. They found it only worked with the mother being a quail. Mother chicken did not work.

Mules were sterile for quite along time too, but recently there were two cases of mules giving birth to baby mules.
 
It talks about first case, this is my example, to young, and anyone else who wants too look at it.
