MJ's little flock

That song ACM! What an obscure bit of quirky music! Is it from a musical?
You know, I don't really know. It was on one of my Dad's LPs when I was a kid.
Now I'll have to go look it up.

Google tells me it's from the 1956 Broadway musical "Happy Hunting".

In retrospect that makes sense. I think Dad's record album was a collection of songs from musicals. Pretty sure it had ones from "Kiss me Kate", "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and "Camelot" too. I remember sitting examining the album cover when I was quite little.

You have legbars so adding one more is no problem. There will be at least 2 of them. Why not 2 Wyandottes?

Legbars get the same treatment that leghorns get. There is a whole group of chicken keepers out there that refuse to engage them and see them for the smart curious birds they are. Rather they categorize them as flighty, nervous, and noisy. Then there are those that take their time, like I did, to truly know these wonderful birds. We describe them as friendly and easily handled.

Because of this and situations like Aurora the evil EE, I no longer listen to breed descriptions. Take a chance. Get some chickens you want. Work with them. Turn them into the hens you want. Each will have their own personality. Learn to relate to them on their terms. Just pray you don't get an Aurora. Although I have to say. I love her for who she is. She frustrates me to no end but she is who she is. I will cry when she passes and she will NEVER be forgotten.

I’ve got a bit of head scratcher here with Bok. She is going bald around her comb, started a while ago and I think we just got used to seeing her that way. Have checked many times for mites and lice around her vent etc but have come up empty handed (I do get a very indignant look from the feathered lady though when I put her back down 😅)
What else besides a parasite could cause this? She’s not bald in any other spots, is otherwise healthy as far as I can tell.
Could she be molting? My Lilly molted like this once.

Ethel Merman was in the musical on Broadway.

😆 Pay attention, ACM, ;) I already said I think there's quite a difference between our chookies & the same breeds in America ~ though technically EEs aren't a breed. I know your girls are lovely & sweeties. 🍬🍬🍬 It doesn't change the fact a lot of Americans seem to have difficult EEs ~ which is why I'm curious what they got crossed with because the Aracauna is a docile, mild, sweet tempered bird for the most part. If I was buying EEs I'd be asking that question.
Of course, silly me. I'm so used to thinking of all our flocks as one big Super Flock I sometimes forget the big differences in breeds between countries.

I don't know about Araucanas being docile and good tempered though. Alice will get in a good peck or two to Edwina's head as she walks under Alice's perch.
She is so short that she couldn't reach it any other time of day. 🙄

I thought that at first but it’s been the same for about 12 months. Neither of my ISA’s (though down to the 1 now) have ever done a hard molt, not sure if that’s normal or not either. Figured if it was molting it would have grown back at some point haha

Every chicken has their own molt. So go hard, all at once, and some go slow over months. My Hattie molts all at once while Aurora has been molting slowly for over 2 months now.

Do you have a rooster? This can happen when a rooster is hanging on.

Another option is feather pecking by someone else at roost time. Another hen may have been or may be eating the feathers from her head.
