MJ's little flock

Every chicken has their own molt. So go hard, all at once, and some go slow over months. My Hattie molts all at once while Aurora has been molting slowly for over 2 months now.

Do you have a rooster? This can happen when a rooster is hanging on.

Another option is feather pecking by someone else at roost time. Another hen may have been or may be eating the feathers from her head.
No rooster, no, but the other ISA we lost at the start of November was the alpha out of the 2 so maybe it was her feather pecking 🤔
I’ll watch and see if they grow back now that Bok is at the top of the order.
Thank you!

They should grow back when she does molt and she will molt. Until then knit her a little hat. 🤣

Tomorrow is Lady Tradie Day!

So I've been preparing.

My first job is finished.

The old fence is dismantled and stacked up. This is where it used to be.

It was in front of those red bricks in the foreground, then it turned and ran along the concrete, past the baby jacaranda, to the old garage.

Here it is now.

Stacked up timber and folded chicken wire.

And the stacked up puppy play pen panels.

My next job is to cut down these tall grasses so the tradies don't trip over.

Yup, seriously.
I can't remember exactly what brought the comment on.

One of things I am doing for my online business is establishing a social media presence. I base posts, videos and blogs on a monthly theme. This month the theme is ‘giving feedback’. One of the quotes I posted is “When giving feedback, think about how you would like to receive it”. Obviously that person didn’t think about how they would like to be spoken to in that manner. :hugs

That's that done.

How safe is it for chickens to get soaked? It has been pouring rain all night and day here, my Jacket is still soaked through from my morning chores, Tarp repairs, and impromptu Cow herding adventures. I was hearing an Odd whirr and couldn’t tell if it was chickens sheltering under my trailer or my generator, and when I went out to turn said genny off was rushed by the chickens. Some of them are as soaked as my morning clothing! It was a chicken noise, I think... I’m steeling myself for the afternoon chores, will probably put out some feed in the trailer coop, but my free range flock is Soggy, Soggy, Soggy!

My girls went to bed soaked last night, but it’s not cold. When it was bucketing down in cold weather, I was worried about them so ended up towelling them down and then they had a sleepover in dog crates in the garage. But I had five and you have lots.

Here is the plan.

We start from the peg in the foreground and go back.

IMG_20210103_182540.jpg

Then along the back fence, 1m out.

IMG_20210103_182217.jpg

Then back towards the concrete.

IMG_20210103_182234.jpg

Then along the concrete towards the jacaranda.

IMG_20210103_182248.jpg

Now another turn towards the back fence, but only a few metres.

IMG_20210103_182301.jpg

Another turn to place a wall between the jacaranda and the little coop.

IMG_20210103_182312.jpg

Back towards the concrete.

IMG_20210103_182323.jpg

And back to where we started.

Can you see Mary in the henhouse? She hasn't been broody today.
