MJ's little flock

All sorts Shad. It'll be a garden one day. In the meantime the little coop and old tables will be in there for shade and a misting system will be installed for cooling. In particular, I'm thinking about three clusters of bushes. One cluster of these I think they'll struggle to get beyond 2m in our soil, and that's perfect. And a couple of other clusters but I haven't chosen which shrubs yet.

Also the hens will only be confined in the run when I'm not home and I'm home a lot.
It's quite hard to find stuff that spreads well instead of growing tall. I don't know much about plants but I've been looking at what grows well here and the range is surprisingly limited.

Hopefully the folks at the state plant nursery can sort me out with a few good species.

It's interesting that Jabber didn't make it pasr Lilly's gate keeping. Did he usually defer to Lilly?
At this point he was smaller than Lilly. Lilly bullied them both. Once he was full grown he used Lilly whenever he wanted, whether she was interested or not. Patsy however was a different story. She would take him on and try to teach him manners.

And yet you can ride a motorbike ~ which I consider more difficult... 🤔
I'm okay with most things that involve balance. I've ridden bikes of one sort or another since I was about three years old.
My swimming. or lack of is partly due to having a father who couldn't swim and of course, the sea around the UK being cold most of the year.

You've been lucky to raise a couple of cockerels because it's given you the opportunity to observe their development. It must be fascinating to see a rooster come of age (if they're well behaved, i recall Jabber spent a lot of time attacking you).

Also, most of the chickening I do is heavily informed by yourself and Shad.
You'll be setting up an indoor nest box soon then.:p
I would read what I write with interest and then listen to Bob.
Not much of what I do here is practicable for people with limited space and of course, the rooster issues are a whole other thing.

Ok, so Bok (my near 3 year old ISA) hasn’t laid in about 5 months but still goes in and nests each day for a bit like she would when laying.
I moved her out of the nesting box today to make sure there was no poop hanging around while I was cleaning the run and the day cubby etc and she started fluffing up the straw just outside of the nesting box instead. Is it normal for them to do this when clearly (and sadly) there’s never going to be another egg?
Fat Bird still does the nesting stuff and she's ten years old and probably won't lay another egg.

Yesterday. Although I doubt they'll venture all the way into the house.
